What would you have done differently?
Quote: I agree completely. I don't want to waste my money on small incremental improvements, I want to get 80-90% of the best there is and stick with that. It won't happen for a while as I have many other things to spend(waste) money on, but while my humble rig can still make me smile I'm...- Nakattack

What would you have done differently?
To all you veterans of this hobby, what would you have done differently if you were to start again? Any regrets about certain gear or not buying certain gear? I'm 2 years in, and I've almost made up my mind about an end-game rig so I can just focus on the music. The only thing I would have done...- Nakattack

A good step up from AD700?
Quote: Did you mean the AD900? The A900 are closed. To the OP, the AD900 would be a direct upgrade, the bass is definitely improved. The treble is extended without being shrill.- Nakattack

AMP A / B COMPARISONS
Quote: I agree completely. I think I have been converted to finding an amplifier described as "a wire with gain", with a beefy power supply in a separate enclosure and the ability to drive most if not all the headphones I'll collect in future. Still haven't made up my mind about DAC's...- Nakattack

Audeze LCD-2 Orthos
Quote: I was just commenting that the LCD-2 is regarded as a slightly darker than neutral phone, and your post seemed to imply that it was the cable that was dark, not the headphones. I'm not doubting that aftermarket cables can make a difference, since I've never head any myself, but...- Nakattack

Similar to Maverik Audio Tube Magic D1 DAC?
The tube in the D1 only affects the Pre-Amp output on the rear of the unit, not the actual headphone amplifier. It's a great piece of kit, the versatility is brilliant.- Nakattack

AMP A / B COMPARISONS
To be honest, I don't think amplifiers should have different flavours at all. Amplifiers should do exactly as their names suggest and amplify a signal, not add colouration or "flavour". I don't own a tube amp so I can't really comment on those, but a wire with gain is exactly how an amp should...- Nakattack

Audio Technica ATH-W100 review, the second première
Holy thread necro Batman! Seriously though, I've never heard the W100 but I would like to. The cynic in me is screaming silently at the hyperbole in the first post, but it would be truly wonderful it were all true. Any other W100 owners out there who would like to chime in?- Nakattack

Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1 questions
I don't have that much experience with other equipment, but I own a D1. I have long suspected that amps don't really affect the sound too much unless you're talking tube vs. solid-state, aslong as they supply enough power for the headphones you're using them with. I use them with my laptop and...- Nakattack

Which upgrade path is best?

James444's IEM giveaway thread (competition has ended - see post #344 and #354 for winners!)
My pair of R02Pro's broke and I'd love to have another pair of IEM's that will do the bass properly in the dubstep tracks I listen to. I've heard the M5's are bass machines nd are great with guitars as well, which is a perfect compliment to my MS-1000i's which are excellent for Jazz and...- Nakattack
