Tying in shield for headphone cables (esp. balanced situations)?
Important or no? I'm used to making guitar and mic cables and we always use the shield in a XLR connector, is there any benefit for headphones? Because for you typical 4 pin XLR balanced plug, there is no option for tying in the shield, and if you wanted to use the shield for a 2 x 3 pin XLR...- cyberspyder

Bit Comparator differences FLAC and MP3 normal correct?
This is normal correct, because I assume since MP3 is compressed there will be bits lost, because I get the following when I run Bit Comparator in foobar: I used foobar to convert the FLAC to MP3 (320kb/s). Brendan- cyberspyder

EAC ripping problems regarding gaps
I've just gotten several CDs that were supposed to be live (ie, gapless), but when I ripped them through EAC (settings are all correct, I've used the exact same settings for many other discs and gapless CDs do come out as gapless) I found out that the tracks were 2 seconds longer than it...- cyberspyder

RU Connected? I am, sort of. (Review of RU connected's entry level RCA Interconnects)
Disclaimer: This review represents my own personal opinions, and are just that, opinions. A couple months back, Philip (Gotez) posted this gracious offer regarding a new start-up called RU connected based out of Bussum in the Netherlands and that he wanted testers for their cable line. I was...- cyberspyder

Coax/BNC straight from a soundcard or through a USB-Coax converter (like the Hiface)?
I have been doing a lot of reading lately and wanted to set up my DAC to play higher resolution files. Right now I don't have a digital out I can use from my computer so I am limited to 48kHz files (which isn't too big of a limitation as I barely have any hi-res files), but I may need the...- cyberspyder

UM3X-like Monitor Recommendation for $130 Required
For when my set of UM3X's are out for repair etc. Isolation and comfort is key as well as neutrality. Must be well rounded and should sound similar to the UM3Xs (bass, frequency range etc.) all for $130. Thanks, Brendan- cyberspyder

Backup pair of monitors for someone that likes neutrality...
I used a pair of Westone UM3X's almost daily up until a couple weeks ago when I mailed them out to Westone for some repairs. My friend gave me his Brainwavz's (sp?) that he got for dirt cheap, and I COULD NOT STAND THEM! While I do like lots of extension in the low end, I do not want it...- cyberspyder

Boutique power cables and power strips...useless (in my case)?
...Unless my source (ie, the wall socket and the power that goes through it) is up to snuff as well? I should rescind the boutique portion, I was just looking at some Hammond surge suppressors and some DIY power cables, but just in case those oh-so-sexy solid aluminum power strips that plethora...- cyberspyder

I'm just making a USB dock, none of that fancy audio out stuff yet and was wondering if I could wire a female USB-B connector in, instead of a male connect. Stealing the limelight from us DIYers and vendors...AND doing such a crap job on the cable. I would not pay for that, or bear to look at it for more than a second. http://www.instructables.com/id/Sleeving-Earphone-Earbud-Cords-with-Paracord/- cyberspyder

Impossible. What's worse is that some nutjob glued the halves together. I tried heating it up, cleaning the body so its free from any oils, but no dice. I hate Pailiccs.- cyberspyder

About to get a great deal on a Mac G5...always wanted one, so I'm stoked. I also just came in the possession of the Bryston 3B amp and I'm thinking, why not upgrade my DAC as well.
