Questionnaire about HiFi Desktop Active Speaker
Tough market to compete in. At the lower end, Ik's iloud micro and mtm are excellent, vantoo is well regarded; up the chain Adam and Genelec have it sorted.- XXhalberstramXX

Fostex T-X0 Massdrop edition
I did the Mayflower mod and I didn't think it sounded good at all with the stock pads. once I got the Shure pads, things made a lot more sense- XXhalberstramXX

Fostex T-X0 Massdrop edition
Update to say that I've tried the Shure 840 pads instead of the stock -- they were a beast to put on, but after 10 mins of wrestling, I got them on. The sounds changes dramatically with these pads: bass and mid-bass is boosted substantially (in fact a bit too much). I had originally performed...- XXhalberstramXX

Fostex T-X0 Massdrop edition
I'd try the Mayflower mods -- the only ones that are non-reversible are the hard felt stuck to the driver back. The modeling clay is probably a pain to remove as well. To my ears, the headphones were a bit "honky" -- possibly due to resonances in the earcups. After the mods (besides the cotton...- XXhalberstramXX

Fostex T-X0 Massdrop edition
Listening now at work on my Magni3 (fed by Fulla 2 output), and this is with the Mayflower mods besides the cotton wool. I still think the frequency response is wonky, and a lot of music (unfortunately lots of metal) sounds very hectic and confused. Bass and highs are nothing to write home...- XXhalberstramXX

Fostex T-X0 Massdrop edition
Did some mods based on the Mayflower modding kit. Sound, in particular midrange coherence, is improved, but I hope to play around a bit more after seeing what other people find. I did everything except the dampening foam (it's already there in the T-X0s) and the cotton (I may play with this a...- XXhalberstramXX

Fostex T-X0 Massdrop edition
Got mine yesterday, only have a Schiit Fulla 2 until I get to work, but so far pretty meh IMO. Some serious wonkiness in the freq responese, which, to be fair, was to be expected. I have a mayflower modding kit on its way, so I'll reserve full judgement until I've done some of those mods...- XXhalberstramXX

What songs make you laugh?
NWA - straight outta compton Eazy-E: "Straight outta Compton, Is a brotha who will smotha your motha..." I don't know why, but the rhyming in that line always makes me smile. My other favorite in the song is "mix a man, cook him in a pot like gumbo!" The song is just full of...- XXhalberstramXX

Are You Watching Soccer World Cup?
on a side note, José Luis Chilavert is by FAR the BEST commentator out there. There is nothing quite like hearing him mangle tough names with the excitement of a child when somebody is about to score a goal for example when Asamoah Gyan of Ghana was in danger of scoring: "Geean, Geeean...- XXhalberstramXX

Are You Watching Soccer World Cup?
:..( no more oranje in the cup. The Dutch got robbed with what should have been a penalty on Robben, but boths sides descended into ugly ugly sportsmanship. van Basten should have put RVN into the game. alas. I'm still holding out hope for Euro 2008. Maybe then Robben will have learned only...- XXhalberstramXX

Not cool...
...shorting together. I got a really far away funky distant sound. First I reterminated them with a neutrik 1/8" jack which was a huge pain in the *****, partly because the jack was a tiny piece of crap (the only ones which parts connection had) and partly because each strand of the cables...- XXhalberstramXX
