    noise-isolating IEM for <$150

Hey,   I posted about a year ago asking for recommendations on a pair of noise-isolating IEMs. My only stipulation was that they don't go too far into the canal, as I have something of a phobia in that regard (which rules out Etymotics). I ended up settling on a pair of custom-made buds, but...

    white-noise generators?

I'd be using it during the day/evening to basically block out annoying sounds (human voices, dogs barking) while I try to read, or even just do basic errands or try to relax in my room. I'm at home a lot (suffer from depression) and the construction of our house means that literally every sound...

    white-noise generators?

thanks for the replies guys. yeah, supposedly one 'adjusts' to the white noise over a period of days, but i don't think i could tolerate it. i was thinking more along the lines of something like the Ecotone which uses white noise, but creates more natural soundscapes (brook, rain, fireplace...

    white-noise generators?

Hi, I live in a really noisy family household and find that sounds throughout the house -- yelling, showers running, etc. -- will invariably leak into my room. It's annoying and distressing, but unfortunately I can't move out for the time being.   I have custom-fitted eagplugs as well as a...

    Multi-IEM Review - 352 IEMs compared (Pump Audio Earphones added 04/03/16 p. 1106)

Quote: the Kozee looks good. i know personal preferences vary as far as tips go - i've only really tried plastic before - but is it rare for people to have an issue with custom silicons as far as comfort goes?

Quote: yeah, but my version of crazy is a little less benign, i suppose. sorry i didn't notice that there was an MC3 and hf5, i was just going based on what an amazon search for etymotic pulled up.   ugh, the neighbour's dog is driving me insane. my room is on the second story of...

    Multi-IEM Review - 352 IEMs compared (Pump Audio Earphones added 04/03/16 p. 1106)

Okay, I promise this is my last question - and I'm sorry for being so anal ..   This is really more than I wanted to admit, and I hope no one thinks I'm crazy henceforth, but I actually suffer from OCD (or obsessive-compulsive disorder). It's insidious and effects every part of my life ...

Quote:   Is wearing the HF5 for a couple of hours at a time, multiple times throughout the day, going to be an issue, comfort-wise, given the deep insertion?

    Multi-IEM Review - 352 IEMs compared (Pump Audio Earphones added 04/03/16 p. 1106)

Quote: I'm really not picky about sound preferences. I'm only using them to work study/with. I listen to a lot of ambient music, or soundscapes, electronica etc.    which would be ideal out of the ER6, MC5, or hf5?

    Multi-IEM Review - 352 IEMs compared (Pump Audio Earphones added 04/03/16 p. 1106)

Quote: Thanks, I'll look into those. I'm not really looking for street-usage isolation; I work from home, but the insulation is pretty bad and I'll often hear the neighbour's dog barking or my brothers fighting, etc.    I know this is probably going to sound really weird, but...

do IEMs make your ears itch?

i know this is gonna sound ridiculous, but would it ever be possible to touch your ear drum with a deep-fitting IEM? maybe a skinny one like the etymotics?

    Multi-IEM Review - 352 IEMs compared (Pump Audio Earphones added 04/03/16 p. 1106)

joker, would you be able to recommend a sound-isolating IEM that doesn't require significantly deep penetration, i.e. something that balances comfort with isolation for less than $150US? i've looked through your guide but it's hard to judge from your ratings exactly what noise isolation...

do IEMs make your ears itch?

hey thanks for all your help DaBomb, I really appreciate it .. I actually meant IEMs under $150 (typo .. which I've corrected), but I noticed some you listed fall in that range, or just over it, and I've been looking through Joker's thread for tips as well.   I have one last technical...

do IEMs make your ears itch?

Quote: Hmm, that's true. Just to be safe, though, I'm going to speak to my doctor next week; since adopting ear plugs, I've noticed that whenever I try to clean my ears, no wax appears on the bud, so maybe they're dried out. Which IEMs would you most recommend for <$150US as far as...

looking for sound-isolating headphones compatible w/ glasses ..

I was actually all set to buy a pair of IEMs from Amazon but then realized that the ear plugs I use have been causing considerable inner-ear itching/irritation and am now worried this could be an issue with IEMs as well.

I should apologize. I just checked the archives and noticed that there's a lot of threads covering this topic.

do IEMs make your ears itch?

So I've been looking for a decent pair of sound-isolating headphones and have been torn between going down the circumaural or IEM route. After weighing up my options, I decided on IEMs and was all set to splash out on a pair of...

Quote: Thanks for the tip. As perplexing as this may sound, I still haven't gotten round to picking up a pair of headphones. The store is pretty out-of-the-way. I'm gonna try head there tomorrow though.   Do you own a pair of Senn HD280s? If so, do you find you're able to use them...

    looking for comfortable, sound-isolating IEM's under $200

Hey, thanks for the suggestion. Just looked up the Amazon entry and they sound exactly like what I need. My only hesitancy is that I'm still not sure whether I'd be able to tolerate IEMs .. is there anyway I can get an idea of how intrusive they might be, i.e. are they at all like flange ear plugs?

    looking for comfortable, sound-isolating IEM's under $200

So I was posting in reference to this thread I started over in the full-size headphones sub-forum .. I'm basically just trying to canvas my various options at this point .. IEM were something I'd kinda written off, given that I find foam earplugs to be pretty uncomfortable and intrusive, but is...

looking for sound-isolating headphones compatible w/ glasses ..

Thanks for the heads up, dude. I'll drop by the store next week and see how forgiving the DT770s are on my bespectacled head . Like I said, even my supra-aural Sony's made things manageable, so maybe I'm being too anal about sound isolation, but I did find I would have to listen to music at a...

looking for sound-isolating headphones compatible w/ glasses ..

Yeah .. I am realistic about how much noise I'll be able to block out. I'm really just trying to make my situation more manageable ... even my crappy Sony's combined with white noise removed about 70% of aural distractions, which was a huge improvement. The issue with IEM's is that I have no...

Also, in terms of sets that don't have active noise-cancelling, will IEM always trump supra and circumaural?
