Westone UM3X Thread
They're brilliant for rock. Basically they are a very good all-rounder, except possibly for classical because of the slightly recessed treble. Coming from the TF10 you may miss the sparkle, but the mids will probably more than make up for it :)- guhmo

Quote: Yeah I get what you mean, it's accurate but musical... a truly rare gem in the world of IEMs :) Yes, you expressed what I meant where you say that it keeps what's been recorded.. Binaural recordings sound brilliant, and well recorded/mastered albums like The Dark Side of the...- guhmo

JDSLabs C421 Preorder is live...
Quote: Ah yes, the HiFiMAN HM 60x, HM 80x and upcoming HM 901 also have line-outs, I think. But I doubt you'll be needing a separate dedicated amplifier on those players.- guhmo

Westone UM3X Thread
Quote: That's funny, for me, coming from a pair of Etys I immediately fell in love with it. On a side note, I'm not sure why people complain about the lack of soundstage in the UM3X. It's deliberately designed that way - when a musician is onstage, they want to be able to hear...- guhmo

Better soundstage with the 2227? From what I've read it seems that the 8620's soundstage is better, probably because of the treble. From personal use the 8620 widens up the UM3X's deliberately small soundstage slightly, and it improves the instrument separation to godlike levels. I think...- guhmo

JDSLabs C421 Preorder is live...
Quote: I think it depends on what sound signature you want. Do you want to retain/increase the ES5's warm sound signature, or would you like to brighten up the highs? For me, I decided to go with the more neutral, slightly v-shaped 8620 over the warmer 2227 for the UM3X to make it more...- guhmo

Just got the iphone 4s, what is the earphone equivalent of the HD600?
The HD600 is pretty neutral so you should probably look into Etymotic for a more analytical sound.- guhmo

Shure SE 425/535, westone 3/ UM3X/ 4, Sennheiser IE8(0), UE TF10, which one?
Quote: I've got the UM3X. They are definitely not v-shaped. I'd say mids are most prominent, followed by bass, and some may say the treble is recessed. Again, keep in mind it was designed as professional stage monitoring earphone. When artists are singing, they want to hear...- guhmo

Why is everyone recommending the SE535 when he explicitly stated he wants a v-shaped sound signature?!- guhmo

Shure SE 425/535, westone 3/ UM3X/ 4, Sennheiser IE8(0), UE TF10, which one?
Quote: Neither are particularly fatiguing, but I'd say the UM3X is definitely the less fatiguing of the two. The treble is toned down slightly because it's designed for hours of constant use by stage performers. The fit is very similar between the two, and if you have average ears you...- guhmo

Shure SE 425/535, westone 3/ UM3X/ 4, Sennheiser IE8(0), UE TF10, which one?
I'd suggest the Westone 3s. The 535 and the UM3X are very mid-centred, which is the opposite from the v-shaped signature you're seeking. The TF10 is one of the more widely known v-shaped somewhat high-end IEM, and the IE8 is known more for its bass, although it's also sort of v-shaped. Keep...- guhmo

Earsonics SM3 vs UE TF 10 vs Westone 4
Quote: Fair enough, I figured that if you're listening to hip-hop and rap you probably love a coloured signature, as that seems to be the general consensus. I don't listen to those genres. :3 Guess he could go for the Ety route too.- guhmo

Quote: Yep, it seems you've found what you're looking for. I've got the AD8620 version and the sound signature is pretty much nonexistent but for a (extremely tiny) bit of treble and bass emphasis. It's also very compact - slightly bigger than a deck of cards - and fits under my iPod...- guhmo
