Schiit Yggdrasil V2 upgrade Technical Measurements
Sorry to necro on an old thread but I must build on this. I currenly have a Bifrost Multibit (Bimby) and tried a Chord 2qute at a point in time. I couldn't stand it for more than 10 minutes, the only thing it did better was bass. Sure it sounded cleaner (hence the THD+N measurements it...- Danny86

Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread
At the same time though, it was the same (noisy or not) computer used to stream both the standard and upsampled content. In theory, when the content is upsampled the computer gets even noisier. So hearing a better(I know this is subjective) result is even more curious. Last but not least I...- Danny86

Matrix X-Sabre DAC review and impression thread
From my experience it depends a lot also on the amplifier. On my Hegel H160 I tried same cable same DAC XLR vs RCA and XLR sounded much better, more dynamic and detailed. I would suggest doing the same with the X-Sabre and V200.- Danny86

Matrix X-Sabre DAC review and impression thread
I think the xsabre is much better in all ways, except with bright systems and poor recordings. I had both and dreaded the irDAC, the X-sabre was listenable.- Danny86

NAD M51 Direct Digital DAC Impressions
Well we would agree to disagree. The main difference is that I listened to both while you are simply speculating. I am trying to pass on my knowledge to the community and you are dismissing my experience based on your assumptions. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with users spending...- Danny86

NAD M51 Direct Digital DAC Impressions
Because streamer is optimized for one thing only, while PC is a not really optimized for audio. PC optimization is super expensive. DAC + streamer is always superior due to the end-to-end sound integration from the manufacturer (Naim 172 XS, Marantz NA-11 S1, etc.). While on paper they are...- Danny86

NAD M51 Direct Digital DAC Impressions
It looks like the Weiss is more expensive than the current street price of the M51 (1100 EUR locally). With that being said, it would perhaps be better to invest the money in a better DAC rather than over invest in the converter ? Also with that money you could find a used streamer...- Danny86

NAD M51 Direct Digital DAC Impressions
Perhaps a silly question but has anyone compared the M51 against an integrated streamer such as the Marantz NA-8005 / Pioneer N-70A or even more expensive ones such as Naim NDX / Marantz NA-11S1 ? I'm wondering whether M51 + proper transport might not end up being more expensive than an...- Danny86

NAD M51 Direct Digital DAC Impressions
I was very happy with the Yellowtech Puc 2 Lite when I was using the M51. Was happy also straight into PC but the USB implementation is rather mediocre.- Danny86

HE-400i vs HE-500??
Not sure vs HE-400i however vs HE-400 they are much harder to drive. My Schiit Lyr 2 had no problem however it is a 6W hybrid amp...some have even tried speaker taps into the HE-500. But it's worth it...- Danny86

NAD M51 Direct Digital DAC Impressions
Try the Yellowtec Puc 2 Lite AES>EBU converter, it enables you to use the best input of the M51 (usb is quite average) and increases dynamics and bass quite considerably. I am a very happy owner. As AES EBU cable I use DH labs D-110, no need to spend more.- Danny86

HE-400i vs HE-500??
Because it requires super high end amplifiers to max out and I'm not in a position to overly invest at this point in time :)- Danny86

HE-400i vs HE-500??
Totally agree, I have the He-500 and find it totally amazing. HE-400 and 400i don't really measure up.- Danny86

When I had the Xsabre I kept only data + and data - and covered the other pins with tape. Worked well. Do not expect huge differences though.- Danny86

New PC Music Server Build Project - All SSD - No Fans
Thank you for sharing ! Please let me know if the RAM filters work, I am pretty much sold on the SATA filter already. Ideally I would only bring one order in from Taiwan as customs take forever to process in EU.- Danny86

New PC Music Server Build Project - All SSD - No Fans
Hi Guys, I just installed a Leadex Gold Super Flower 750W in a mid-tower ATX case to replace the brick power supply I was using previously. I have to say the difference is night and day, I was not expecting this performance jump for only 100 EUR. Also, I already have the AQVOX linear...- Danny86

NAD M51 Direct Digital DAC Impressions
I feel like contributing to this thread, in my system lowering the volume definitely robes the music of DR and bass slam. I try to keep it at 0 db or lower it as little as possible (Yamaha A-S2100 is quite sensitive as XLR is tuned at 2.8 V). Perhaps others might leverage this info.- Danny86

Matrix X-Sabre DAC review and impression thread
The X-Sabre sounded better through AES/EBU in my system (you lose DSD though... ). The difference is not as striking as on the M51 which has a mediocre USB implementation, as others already mentioned. Could also be a problem of the transport or the AES/EBU cable used ? From experience AES/EBU is...- Danny86

New PC Music Server Build Project - All SSD - No Fans
From my experience it is not the best idea to connect anything on USB besides the DAC. This has been confirmed by many other DAC owners and was also recommended to me by the creator of Daphile. YMMV, you have been warned :)- Danny86

JPlay driver not showing in JRiver 20.0.44
In my experience, W7 was the worst sounding OS. Windows 8 was better. Windows Server 2012 was even better. Going into Core Mode was a big difference even from "stock" Windows 2012 server (on this I think know why, because it has very few services and the OS is very light - 3 or 4 GBs in total)...- Danny86

JPlay driver not showing in JRiver 20.0.44
For someone that runs Windows 7, I really doubt your capability in terms of computer audio and I would really not want to debate Jplay with you at this point. Also, by looking at how you communicate it is clear that you are very unlikely to accept other opinions on the matter which is also...- Danny86

Matrix X-Sabre DAC review and impression thread
I did the same mistake and bought the X-Sabre based on similar posts. To me that is total BS as I had both the M51 and the X-sabre simultaneously and even on the USB there is no contest, the nad is warm and euphonic with great resolution ("tubey") while the X-sabre is neutral at most and...- Danny86
