Help - need new pads for HD280's
Anyone know where I could find some replacement ear pads for a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's? The only place I can find that seems to sell them is B&H Video but they are out of stock. Thanks for the help.- Jim R

Need opinions about midrange home headphone rig
Just a thought. I feel sorry for the poor student who can't afford to go to college because he really does need that scholarship. Enjoy the headphone rig.- Jim R

Will anyone here be interested in SEX (headphone amp)?
Just curious if anyone thinks that they will spring for Doc B's new headphone amp kit? Sounds like it will go for $300 or so. I don't have much personal experience with his other kits but there aren't too many people who don't consider the vast majority of them "high bang fpr the buck" products...- Jim R

Next Tubeamp Upgrade After MG Head?
"So what's the next best and cheapest upgrade " This is a bad and expensive habit - of upgrading in babysteps. I know, I have been there and done that. Sometimes it is better (and cheaper in the long run) to enjoy what you have and save money untill you can upgrade to an amp that will...- Jim R

I need a MP3 player that can read Compact Flash Cards.
I am a photographer and I need an inexpensive portable hard drive to read my compact flash cards. There are several 20+GB portable hard drives that are available that cost $200-250. If I am going to buy one though, I thought it would be nice to also have a portable MP3 player. The MP3 player...- Jim R

Earmax Pro power output problem (Solved?)
There is something wrong with your EMP. I use a CDP with the exact same output with my EMP and you would never turn it past the halfway point of the volumn control with the HD-600's. I bet you have a bad tube or there is something else wrong with the EMP. If replacing the tubes doesn't correct...- Jim R

Has anyone compared a PPA to other amps?
Have the designers or anyone else compared a PPA to some of the pretty nice commercial amps that one can buy for the price of the PPA parts? I can't seem to find any information on comparisons. I like to do DIY projects just for the fun of it and am intrigued by the PPA but I already use an...- Jim R

Grace 901 vs. Gilmore vs. Sugden vs. EarMax Pro
I can't help you with a direct comparison and I can't give you any ideas on how well the EMP drives the Grados but I can tell you this, the EMP + HD-600's is a sweet combination. I wouldn't throw this one off the poll quite yet.- Jim R

I wonder how this $9000 headphone amp sounds?
http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.p...168&class&3&4& I have no connection with the seller but was curious for info. I do see a couple posts in the archives. Too rich for my blood though.- Jim R

I have a some oceanfront property in Arizona that is for sale if you have any money left after buying the ear candles. -
Just got new HD600's after owning HD25's
In my opinion, a good amp will make more difference than a cable upgrade. For the cost of the Cardas cable you could be halfway to affording the MG Head amp. Wait till you hear the 600's with a good tube amp.- Jim R

SACD?
A few practical things. The Sony SACD players are usually very good CD players. I own a Sony SACD player (777 ES) that I use for CD's primarily (I only own 2 SACD's) and think it is a great CDP. It wouldn't bother me if SACD died in the sense that I would still have a nice CDP. The cheaper Sony...- Jim R

Any reason not to leave a CD on repeat for 24 hours?
A year or two ago when the new Sony SACD players came out, people were finding that there was a very long break-in period for them. Many people were putting their units on continuous play for days at a time for break-in and there were quite a few complaints of machines that quit working and had...- Jim R

New to the turntable game...
I am thinking about getting one of Doc Bottlehead's new phone stages. If you can do some simple soldering, it should be a pretty nice phone amp for $225. I would be pretty surprised if it doesn't beat most of the commercial alternatives in this price range...- Jim R

Bottlehead Headphone Amp Kit Poll
I assume Doc's amp would be a kit like everything else he sells. The biggest market would probably be for the $200 amp kit that will compete with the $400-500 alternatives (ie. the DIY cheapskate market). This seems to be Doc's usual strategy (ie. Foreplay, Seduction, etc.). I own a Earmax...- Jim R

Daruma: Awesome vibration control device
For the DIY'ers (and the cheapskates like me), it is possible to make some Daruma clones. I made mine by buying some steel balls from (http://www.smallparts.com) and some spoons from the local Walmart (tablespoons better than teaspoons). I cut some small squares (about 3" x 3") from an oak board...- Jim R

Bottlehead headphone amp, not a kit...Yet!
Good news but the problem with Doc's stuff sometimes is that it takes forever to go from the developmental stage to the point where the products are for sale. I have been waiting forever for the phono preamp to be released. I looked back and they choose the name for the phone preamp in March...- Jim R

Speaker info (they were just a few inexpensive but high quality options off the top of my head) http://www.gr-research.com (under DIY section) http://www.magnepan.com (look up MMG's) http://www.bottlehead.com/et/et.html (go down to Straight 8 info) There is tons of info on these...- Jim R

Percentages on components?
Tell your dad he is wrong. I hate the percentage game but you are clearly right that 80/20 is not the way to go for a balanced system. I also agree with the statement that the higher up you go on the audio chain, the more that should be spent on upstream components. My current system ($7000...- Jim R

Remind me never to order from Mouser or Newark again
I recently placed an order from Digi-key (standard UPS shipping) and received it at my home 18 hours later. I ordered it around 2PM and it was signed out to UPS by 4 PM with the tracking # in my email. Was on my doorstep the next morning. Amazing. I live in Wisconsin and I think that they are...- Jim R

Comparative review (longish): head-to-head(moretto)
Nice review - thanks. You mentioned the Zotl just briefly. Could you compare these briefly to your Zotl? Is the Zotl in a different league (or at least 2x better considering the price)? Just curious.- Jim R

my earmax pro just broke..
I use the Sylvania Gold Brand 6201 and a pair of Amperex Bugle Boy 6dJ8's in my EMP and love this combo. I also have a pair of Amperex Orange Globe 6dJ8's that are very good but maybe a slight step down from the Bugle Boys. I just got another Sylvania GB 6201 for a back-up from...- Jim R

Best way to pay at meier audio
Correction - the more I think about this, it was a payment to C2it that got me in trouble with the credit card fees and interest (not Paypal). I think I used c2it to try to save the Paypal fees and got burned by my credit card company. Sorry for the error, it was about a year ago and I...- Jim R

Best way to pay at meier audio
I bought some 600's from Jan and wanted to use a credit card for my own protection. I used his credit card/paypal connection and everything went fine but when I got my credit card bill there was about $25 in fees and interest added to the bill. It turns out that my credit card company considered...- Jim R
