The New HIBY R3 II is here. 4.4MM Jack; Improved Sound and Bluetooth.
Thanks for those, it does seem as though 11 hrs might be pushing the limits. It is less than I would like, but everything else with this player looks so good.- Orac

The New HIBY R3 II is here. 4.4MM Jack; Improved Sound and Bluetooth.
R3 looks like it will be a great DAP, but I'm still on the fence because of the battery/playback time. Is the quoted spec likely to be a true to 'real world' or more a best case scenario with sensitive IEMs/earbuds? Did the R6 live up to its' spec re playback time?- Orac

Obscure Chinese DAPs
Useful first feedback, thanks :) It sounds like it might tick a lot of boxes for me, if the playback time was longer it could be near perfect, but ~20 hrs is more useful than the 8-12 hrs that so many other players are limited to.- Orac

Obscure Chinese DAPs
does anybody know anything about the AGPtek H3? just noticed it on Amazon and something about it looks familiar, but I can't find any mentions of it on Head-Fi DAP discussion. AGPtek H3 $130 / £99 / €115 specs claim: 94 × 56 ×15 mm 256GB microSD support, up to 14999 songs 22-24 hrs playback...- Orac

...I don't know if DAPs and earphones are subject to duty, but you should pay item value + duty + VAT, shipping + VAT. DHL add handling fees of something like €15 + 2% of the value, and they're often sly ****s because they add the 2% after everything else. Challenge it if it's calculated...- Orac

NEW XDUOO X serie DAP-X20, X10+ & X3+. XDUOO Are on FIRE!!!
Cowon is the brand I mainly associate with very long battery life, there are several discontinued models with 60-100 hrs and more. Before they were discontinued those occupied the niche I'm talking about. Right now Plenue D is a current product with 100+ hrs claimed for mp3 and 50 hrs for flac...- Orac

NEW XDUOO X serie DAP-X20, X10+ & X3+. XDUOO Are on FIRE!!!
For me, 8 hrs is pathetic and I wouldn't even consider it no matter the other attributes. I considered the Cayin N3 as most people are happy with it, but the claimed 12 hr life was the deal breaker. 25+ hrs is very desirable, but I'd really prefer a lot more and I'm only really impressed by...- Orac

NEW XDUOO X serie DAP-X20, X10+ & X3+. XDUOO Are on FIRE!!!
Given the feedback in the other thread, the D3 is very disappointing. I suspect that X3+ will not interest me either if the battery/playback time is limited, but I may as well ask: is anything else known about the features or when this might be available?- Orac

XDUOO NANO D3 24bit/192Khz DSD256 portable DAP-Info and impressions
Thanks for the feedback, you saved me from wasting $80 and I can strike this from my list. Somewhat depressing that so many of these contemporary DAPs are disappointing in so many ways, but there it is.- Orac

or you could consider this is as a blessing, if you're as a busy as you said you won't have the distraction until you've got time again, and the new toy will be something to look forward to having after your deadline.- Orac

Chinese / Asian Brand IEM Info Thread
Honestly if you go through my posts you will likely find dozens of dyslexic typos, repeated words, missing words, incorrectly substituted words etc. I have a really bad habit of using cut & paste excessively to rearrange paragraphs and sentences, then failing to notice errors until later -...- Orac

Thanks again, now I'm armed with enough information to (hopefully) find a good solution. No worries on gom vs gum, I had the faintest inkling I'd seen it that way before :)- Orac

New Head-Fi Update
I hadn't noticed until it was pointed out here, but that's great. For the sub-forum search, could this have a check box to search thread titles only? or do so by default? Maybe I'm in a minority, but I have an idea I search way more by thread title than all posts.- Orac

Could I trouble you to point me at some examples? I'm just quick look on eBay and Aliexpress, but so far not turning up any results. And just to be certain, should I be searching for "gom" or is this an alternate spelling for "gum?" Thanks!- Orac

Apologies if I cause offence here, but having recently seen forum users ask for correction to improve their English I will play the spelling Nazi today. In this context you mean piqued rather than peaked, and definitely not peeked.- Orac

That's what I suspected would be the only viable course of action. It's not a major problem, but I see I'm not the only one finding it a little bothersome that certain threads are occasionally overloaded with videos.- Orac

Earbuds Round-Up
I'm looking at more photos of my own ears, interestingly I don't really have a pronounced bump at the antitragus, and the space between antitragus and the ridge at 3 is relatively tall, so it seems the preferred fit area on my ear isn't at all close to ideal. I guess I need to get surgery so I...- Orac

Earbuds Round-Up
I found some junk earbuds that I think came with a cheap (dumb) mobile phone. No good for listening to music, but I thought it might be an indicator of what to look for in terms of fit. Somewhat predictably for me, the fit is hopeless because my ears stick out a bit. These things just slide...- Orac

Noble Audio - Introducing EDC Velvet
Will be keeping one eye on the feedback for these, hopefully the dealers will be able to improve availability without the shipping cost.
