Rumor: New Sennheiser Flagship to be surfaced ........ soon
Well, according to Trusted Reviews these did reappear at CES 2013 though whether these were newly manufactured or preserved originals is not clear. http://www.trustedreviews.com/sennheiser-orpheus-he-90_Headphones_review- IanG

Rumor: New Sennheiser Flagship to be surfaced ........ soon
Well I would respectfully suggest that very few know what the Orpheus 2 sounds like. I've never heard a pair, never mind owned a pair - and if I were in the former category I recognise that memory is pretty fickle when it comes to sound quality. Without doubt, if it emerges, the new Orpheus...- IanG

Rumor: New Sennheiser Flagship to be surfaced ........ soon
I don't see it being $5k per unit - I was suggesting £5k or $8k per unit (although our VAT at 20% does make a difference when compared with your sales tax at 5%). I'm just making the point that the economics might work at £5k per unit if they can sell lots but at £10k or £15k per unit if they...- IanG

Rumor: New Sennheiser Flagship to be surfaced ........ soon
I'd guess Sennheiser will pitch the headphone at just under £5k and do likewise for the amplifier, if it is an unlimited run. This will create a decent premium above the 009 level creating some ownership exclusivity but also trade-in or sale possibilities for 009 owners. That's if the...- IanG

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread
Well that is the price at two dealers I know of, without any amp. I guess they are looking to amortise their development cost based on what must be a limited sales potential - so it would not surprise me if $1,000 of the cost covers that. Remember in the UK there will be $1200 in value added...- IanG

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread
Yes I am the guy who tried the Abyss, not at home but at a high end UK dealer who really focusses on the headphone market. I use Stax SR009s with a Cavalli amp at home, and the SR009s were there at the dealership too (not with the Cavalli or Woo or BHSE however) along with just about all...- IanG

SR009 / WES / BHSE / LL hit the mainstream
Quote: I've heard both LL and BHSE and can't hear a difference with the 009s. Neither can David1961. If I were you I wouldn't get engaged in a LL and BHSE comparison - the LL you have is just fine - far better to spend time optimising other things like your turntable, other equiment...- IanG

SR009 / WES / BHSE / LL hit the mainstream
Quote: But, by the end of the evening's listening they had been on for well over two hours. And, on a general point. if one has to wait such a long time for an amplifier to stabilise - whether it be the BHSE or the LL - then that must raise the question of whether one wants to buy it...- IanG

SR009 / WES / BHSE / LL hit the mainstream
Quote: We did not test blind. We gave plenty of warm up time. What I would like to see is a supervised double blind test to ascertain whether those who claim material differences really can hear them, to a statistically significant degree. In the end these tests never happen, be...- IanG

SR009 / WES / BHSE / LL hit the mainstream
Quote: Two of us here have a BHSE and a LL. We cannot tell them apart on sound grounds*. And that is sighted. If anyone can distinguish to a statistically significant level in a blind test I would be impressed. But for me it does not matter as I hear no difference. I just enjoy the...- IanG

STAX 009 ORDERED!... will i be able to drive it with SRM 006tII?
They will be fine. I used 009 phones with an 006 amp before I got the Cavalli and sold the 006 amp. The 007 amp less so - it had less drive with the 007 phones and maybe with the 009 phones too.- IanG

SR009 / WES / BHSE / LL hit the mainstream
Quote: I agree entirely. A colleague here also finds some "detail" issue with his BHSE/009 combination - having to turn down what he thinks is a satisfactory volume level on some tracks or track openings to more manageable levels later. To be fair I don't get that with his...- IanG

SR009 / WES / BHSE / LL hit the mainstream
Quote: David1961 (a BHSE owner) and I (a LL owner) listened to both about three months ago with a good CD source and David's 009s and my 009s and 007s. We could hear no difference with the 009s via the BHSE or the LL. We did hear the generally accepted difference between the...- IanG

SR009 / WES / BHSE / LL hit the mainstream
Quote: Thank you! Quote: I agree! To me, internet discussion threads are a bit like reading a mix of broadsheet and tabloid UK newspapers. They inform, or they irritate, or they irritate intensely - and you can do nothing about most of the issues. So whilst I do dip...- IanG

SR009 / WES / BHSE / LL hit the mainstream
Quote: Dave ("David1961") and I were both at the event. In fact Dave took his BHSE and his 009s driven by an iPod. Back home we had, about two months ago, listened to my LL and Dave's BHSE with my 007s and 009s and Dave's 009s. We posted the results, which were...- IanG

[IMPRESSIONS] UK Head-Fi Meet September 15th 2012 - Cambridge
Many thanks to Andy for organising this event. I am sure that for lots of effort went into making this a really enjoyable day - Dave ("David1961") and Andy (not a HeadFi member as far as I know) and I had a great day even though it was a two hour journey from Yorkshire. Conditions...- IanG

Headamp Blue Hawaii Special Edition
Quote: On both occasions the 007s had not been used for a while - perhaps two weeks. On the question of temperature/humidity: pass. Similar days as far as I can recall, the first in summer, the second in early autumn. Listening duration: pretty similar.- IanG

Headamp Blue Hawaii Special Edition
Quote: Yes they are mk 1s. David and I hadn't listened together to these headphones on David's gear since our first and only try two months ago. (Nor have I listened to both on my gear). At that time we felt there were discernible differences with little if anything favouring the...- IanG

Cavalli Audio - Liquid Lightning
Quote: I will do that - to be fair it is not a long job to link up the two Stax amplifiers and listen through them and the LL. I cannot do that on a swiched basis as my amplifier configuration has just one "pre-out" - but it is a simple replugging of mains and RCAs - my amplifier as...- IanG

Cavalli Audio - Liquid Lightning
I've had my LL for seven weeks now - with both 007 Mk 1 and 009 headphones. I have heard the BHSE too, with both headphones; and also have the Stax 007t and the Stax 717 amplifiers. Now I really must sell two amplifiers and one headphone and what is certain is that I will keep the 009s and...- IanG

SR009 / WES / BHSE / LL hit the mainstream
Quote: Is the UK 'meet' at Whittlebury? I know Cavelli is there but did not see Blue Hawaii on the exhibitor list. David ('David1961') and I own 009s (and I have 007s too) - him with Blue Hawaii me with Cavelli. Our listening comparison wasn't scientific (one amp through a...- IanG

SR009 / WES / BHSE / LL hit the mainstream
Quote: I agree entirely. The possibility of getting a precise volume match without a quality db meter with headphone application is virtually zero. And the possibility of achieving unbiassed sighted or unsighted comparisons is an even lower probability. The 009s, whether...- IanG

SR009 / WES / BHSE / LL hit the mainstream
Quote: Quote: Yes I definitely felt the 007s seemed a bit starved when driven by the BHSE - as though there was insufficient drive. I didn't get this with the LL - and all this hardly matters to us anyway since David is the one with the BHSE and doesn't use the 007s...- IanG
