The Fostex TH-900 sells for as low as $1,400 new. Not sure where you got the $2,300 from.

If I had to guess, I would say the HD 800 successor will be anywhere between $1,600 and $2,500.

Oh sorry, I didn't catch that. I should have known. I think I can safely assume that no new flagship headphone will be worth $250K for many decades (unless it's plated with precious metal(s) and/or gem(s)).

Well, I hope Sennheiser will live up to its fame again, cause putting a 'II' behind it and pricing it higher won't make it sound better.
The guys behind the Orpheus were genius and I don't think it will let itself get beaten so easily.

Even if it does beat the Orpheus, it would be more of a technical statement, and not so much a commercial headphone.. Well that's obvious.
Still interesting though, the old engineers from the 80s~90s against the new engineers from the 00s~10s, that's how I see it.

Well, according to Trusted Reviews these did reappear at CES 2013 though whether these were newly manufactured or preserved originals is not clear.

That would be nice for certain purposes, but there is no way the successor to the HD 800 would be closed-back.
