Anyone read Japanese?
Japanese singer Utada Hikaru wears them consistently in her studio performances. I wonder if she gets any ad money from Sony for so conspicuously displaying the "red band" headphones. Or perhaps the cans just go with the Toshiba/EMI studio atmosphere... Please, do tell us how you like them...- kaitsuburi

What I noticed recently on a lot of sports programs
The HD280s with a (separate) mic is what I'm using for Skype all the time actually I can definitely see the sense in coupling those cans with a high quality microphone and pitching them to phone operators/sales people etc. The comfort (some may disagree), together with isolation, build...- kaitsuburi

Anyone read Japanese?
Rough translation follows. Great headphones BTW. Very accurate reproduction without being dry or boring at all. The SACD listening stations in Japanese HMVs all have MDR-CD900STs. -kaitsuburi ================= To: All Customers From: Sony Music Communications, KK Thank you for...- kaitsuburi

AKG501- who said these things sound good only with Classical and Jazz?
**chime chime** I have almost the same setup as Kunwar and I totally love the K501s!! Their neutrality (no "groovalizing effect", colour, overemphasis, et.al.), combined with the "full open air" soundstage create an effect of clarity and control that I find very pleasing (<--insert K501...- kaitsuburi

Welcome back AKG K-501 !!
K-501 paired with Talisman 3-H is a great combination. IMHO, bass is not an issue anymore. The clarity of the K-501 is absolutely awesome. I love my K-501 :k501smile: -kaitsuburi- kaitsuburi

most detailed headphones
Detailed? Piano? Budget? IMHO, you can't beat the AKG K-501 with those requirements. Give it an amp and it will really shine. -kaitsuburi PS. "Best" will have to go to electrostats ~~ stunningly detailed!- kaitsuburi

Talisman T-3H
I find the T-3H to be very adequate in the bass area, giving enough umph to my K-501s. I briefly auditioned a Sugden Headmaster and I think the T-3H possesses a similar "authority" but adds a bit of mellowness that I found a bit lacking in the Headmaster. And there is the coolness factor of...- kaitsuburi

Am I missing any good closed cans under $100?
I've tried carrying my HD280s around and using them in loud train/buses ~~ they are definitely very nice for the job (isolation is superb), however they look dorky HD280s also have a very "controlled" sound, making them good for analytical purposes, like mixing. Out of the 4 choices you...- kaitsuburi

Boston: any good stores?
If you are looking for isolation, the HD280s cannot be beaten. They are cheap and sound very respectable (playing bassy music through them for a while greatly improves the bass) without amps & frills (64 Ohms). The Grados SR-125 are a great choice too, value and sound-wise; the only thing...- kaitsuburi

HD-280's: Yay or Nay?
Just burn them in, the longer the better, the more bass the better. Mine are 3+ years old, 1000s of hours of burn-in; the bass is not a problem at all. Now that I have the K-501s for comparison, the highs (on the HD280s) do sound a little squished and hence a little "harsh." I love the...- kaitsuburi

Eggos? Are they right for me?
I love my Eggos!! They are very light and comfortable, portable, and sound extremely respectable. Nothing wrong with the highs for me. Isolation is a small issue; they don't let much sound out, but let in quite a bit of ambient noise. This feature kind of makes sense if you consider that they...- kaitsuburi
