Is it possible, to change the ipod touch 4G's DAC?

I can tell you that the ipod touches use DAC IC's that are fine pitched BGA packages that are glued to the board after soldering, you don't have a hope of doing anything with it

Is ripple the only spec we care for in an "audio source" PSU?

Read all the pages here on voltage regulators, explains it all as simply as it really can be put with lots of measurements included - http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/solidstate.html

Desktop computer PSU specs; possible to DIY?

Quote:   No, there is no regulator from 12V to 3.3V, Computers never use linear regulators for anything either (some soundcards and low power devices may, but they are exceptions). As has been said, 3.3V is used for some peripherals, but it's not used for high powered devices like the CPU...

Desktop computer PSU specs; possible to DIY?

Quote:     It is more efficient, in a nut shell. The drop doesn't matter at all for SMPS's, they have very good efficiencies where it is usually more efficient to run from higher voltage inputs. The wire connecting your PSU to the board don't need to be as heavy either, as there is less...

Balanced headphone amp with DAC, Community project perhaps?

PCM2706 -> PCM1794 -> i/v converter -> 4channels of your favourite headphone amp   Read the datasheets of the parts I linked, start playing with a PCB layout editor, spend a few months playing with designs, look and research other peoples designs, and by the end you'll have something that'll...

    Show me your desk!

This pic is a bit old, that stack is a bit larger now with another small bench power supply, another matching DVM (2nd from the bottom), another DSO and a PC.   I don't have much suggestion on organisation, I use lots of boxes to put parts/projects in progress in so you can swap them out...

soundcard clock modding to improve S/PDIF jitter?

Sorry, but that was the receiver side actually. The CS841x chips that are used as spdif receivers have differential inputs and this circuit converts the incoming spdif to a differential signal which is suppose to help. No, that transformer can't be used for analogue, it is designed to work...

soundcard clock modding to improve S/PDIF jitter?

Nearly all the time, none of the gear you buy actually does proper coax transmission and termination. You can't compare coax to toslink until you have the coax right, so for the best results you have to make the rx/tx circuits yourself For transmission you want the schematic posted by Jocko...

soundcard clock modding to improve S/PDIF jitter?

Toslink is worse off than coax, so there is no point in upgrading your clock if you are going to shove it down some crappy plastic 14.18318Mhz isn't an integer ratio of any of the audio sample rates, so there has to be some stuff going on to make it to the same rate and that is going to...

How long does it take the OPUS DAC to dry?

You need to wash it out with alcohol, get a good one if you can. Once it is washed off with that then it only needs minutes to dry from there, alcohol evaporates very quickly

some really bad SMD soldering (example)

With reflow soldering, the use of a bit too much solder there makes the surface tension, with the lack of a solder mask gap between interconnecting pads, pull the resistors together. They could probably fix it by using less solder, sure this doesn't look like much there but staring at mobile...

    SMD Soldering

The only thing you need a hot air station for is general desoldering of smd's and soldering on BGA parts. If you are soldering by hand then just use an iron and regular solder and plenty of flux. The mini3 only has 2 SOIC's and they are absolutely massive in the SMD realm, you should have no...

    Voltage Dividers...

This is the sort of problem that is good to solve from first principals, get yourself some paper and use ohms law, V = IR, to work it out yourself from scratch, make up some values. You can go further by adding a load to the output and seeing it's effects on the circuit then (hint, find the...
