Barring the benefits of a shielded vs. unshielded transformer do you all find the various brands can affect sq for better or worse?

I'm talking about for use in DAC's as well as headphone amps.

Transformer DOES bring different in music.

You can try various R-Core, C-Core, EI, and Toroidal (with or without potted). Try with same VA if you are not sure. All has different sonic quality. Some very picky in terms of placement. Even same Core with different maker (depends on the "core" quality) has different sonic.

Thanks.

I believe he is talking about power transformer.

It certainly depends what kind of transformers you talk about, and especially if is in the signal path or not.

EI core actually are much better at isolating from mains to your circuit due to lower parasitic cap between windings from the coil geometry

only if you are packing your sensitive circuits right up agains the ps xfmr do toroids offer any real advantage - and even then R-core dual bobbin xfmrs can have low B leakage with low coupling C
