Philips Fidelio NC-1 announced today--the first Fidelio active noise-canceler

Personally I'm more interested in the also introduced Philips Fidelio M1 mkii, in particular how they compares to the original M1. However, it seems nobody noticed this introduction...   http://www.ifa.philips.com/news/sound-on-the-go/fidelio-m1mkii-headphones

    Bang & Olufsen ICEpower technology

When I got an Asus laptop a while ago, I did not intend to use it for listening to music. When eventually I did plug in my Grado’s, I was very impressed with its sound signature: open, clean, with a lot of authority.   I learned that the audio part was powered by “Bang & Olufsen ICEpower”...

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

At this time there are some providers of "high res" music and some providers of "audiophile players". This Pono initiative seems to be the first to combine both: providing and audiophile player and providing high res music. In fact, they're aiming to provide high res music form the major labels...

NEW Sony Walkman Z Series mini review!!!

In which EU country did you obtain the NWZ-Z1070? I've scanned the Sony website of quite some EU countries and didn't find any that provided the NWZ-Z1070. The top model most of the times seem to be the NWZ-Z1060.

NEW Sony Walkman Z Series mini review!!!

So if I understand it correctly, this RMAA test was conducted on a EU "volume crippled" device? Does that mean that the results on a non-EU (US/Japanese) device might be different? If so, I am very curious about an RMAA test on such a device. If anyone finds such a test of a non-EU Z series...

NEW Sony Walkman Z Series mini review!!!

    The EU volume cap mystery

Quote: Thanks for this explanation tienbasse. I was quite difficult to find the actual legislation regarding the volume gap, so when I found the source I mentioned I presumed that was it. Apparently that was never approved by the general assembly of the EU. I understand the risks of...

NEW Sony Walkman Z Series mini review!!!

Quote: Thanks for your reply DigitalCurator. I'm well aware of the advantages of connecting a DAP via USB. Connecting it via USB to a home stereo, bypassing the internal DAC, may indeed improve sound quality (However I'm not sure the DAC of a car stereo would always be superior to the DAC...

NEW Sony Walkman Z Series mini review!!!

@DigitalCurator...   Quote:   So does the Z series Walkman support playback via USB? I had the impression that 'standard' Android does not support playback via USB and that only a few custom versions support that (cyanogenmod?). ...Unless Sony provided its own custom Android...

    The EU volume cap mystery

I'm afraid it comes down to a certain laziness of the manufacturers indeed....which is highly disappointing. Like Sansa, Cowon also seems to provide the option to change the region. Any other region than Europe will disable the volume cap. However, this is not really a neat solution, is it...

    The EU volume cap mystery

Every now and then messages pop up to the effect of “how do I disable the EU volume cap on my device”. Some people even choose go through the hassle of importing their devices from outside Europe, in order to avoid the volume cap, accepting the risk of not being able to address the official...

    Android phones and USB DACs

Voted as the standard sound quality of my HTC Desire S is quite poor. The suggested wireless alternative is indeed a better solution, however are there any wireless portable DAC/AMPS available? Since there are many portable USB DAC/AMP's available alread, I'd prefer that Google enables...

Quality of sound improvement possible by connecting Bluetooth headphones?

Thanks JK1, could you please help me understand why bluetooth decreases sound quality? If the A2DP bluetooth profile is used, there should be more than enough bandwith available to stream high quality audio. Since the connection itself is digital, the sound quality should depend on the...

Quality of sound improvement possible by connecting Bluetooth headphones?

Hello all,   I own a HTC Desire S mobile phone which almost holds my entire music collection on the 32GB micro SD card. So far so good. However, I consider the sound quality of this device using my Grado SR60i headphones pretty bad.   I wonder whether connecting it through bluetooth to...
