someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't an impedance adapter lower both the noise floor and the signal, requiring you to turn up the volume more, increasing the noise, accomplishing nothing.- t0wer

Last I checked optical is limited to 24/96, you're going to have to go with coax for 192khz.- t0wer

Sub $50 Noise Cancelling Headphones
active cancelling won't help with roomates, IEMs would be the best option. I've read etymotic have some of the best isolation. You might want to look into the mc5 or ek5.- t0wer

at this point multimeter is the only way to do it. I would think the copper/bronze color would be ground. really wish I didn't throw my broken cc51 ear tip out, could've given you 2 colors off that,- t0wer
