    Are my ears changing?

The Total Bithead helped to clean up my E2cs for sure. I also did the mod suggested here, pry the small, glued in rubber rings in the tips of the E2's out. It opens up the high-end quite a bit and gave me a lot of the missing detail...though it does make them pretty bright. I just EQ them a...

    MP3 vs Uncompressed

Interesting thing too, some of my favorite recordings of mixes that I did were simply a DAT that was jacked into the main mix of the house mixing console during a live show. (A board mix of a live show only comes out well by "magic" as what you program during a live mix is meant for the room and...

    MP3 vs Uncompressed

I agree that most people who claim to hear the difference have something missing in their comparison. Poorly encoded examples that people don't realize as such I think are the big offenders. Too many people simply don't understand the settings they are using to encode or are assuming things...

    hakko 936 and iron size

Get the medium which is the one normally sold in the ESD safe bundle that HMC and others commonly sell. The large is for things like heavy gauge work, as in stained glass work or heavy gauge wire. All the DIY stuff can be done with the medium and the tips offered for that handle. The...

    Low volume on Total Bithead

The setting is shown in the manual, which I don't have handy. Play it, with the switch on one setting. Turn it off. Flip the switch. Turn it on. If it gets louder, it is now on high. If it gets softer, it is now on low. Should it get softer, that would mean you were on the...

    My Last Hope in Headphones

Just curious, any idea how loud you are listening? Are you listening at 'live' levels, 100db+ ? If so, you won't make it for lengthy sessions at levels like that without at the minimum fatigue and likely actual hearing damage. Long listening sessions require low levels, period. I run...

Outdated PC/mac which you still used

I have a K6-3/450 with 512MB in it that still runs fine, though I just swapped out a Sun Ultra 10 for a bit. These two are 'servers' for me, they run 24/7 as long as my power stays up in the house. I've got a 340MB drive that is still fine. I keep it around just in case I wind up with a...

Recommendation::: Eccentric, and very specific criterion

Stick your fingers in your ears until you have a complete seal, that's pretty close to what Shure E2c IEMs will do for noise reduction. Those are true IEMs though and have a complete seal. What you can hear around you with IEMs in depends greatly on the music level. Even at very low levels...

Would I see any benefits with a DAC in my situation?

Only from what I've read, but Denon is supposed to have excellent DACs in that series. Improvement in a $200 DAC, I'm not so sure it would be a significant change, particularly if you are just going from the Denon directly into your headamp now and have decent interconnects.

Is the internet deteriorating the art of conversation?

Looking around the offices of the job I have and the last several I have had, I see people with advanced degrees who are simply unable to communicate. They are ineffective in verbal communication and worse with the written word. The Internet is a pool that is much broader reaching than my...
