Quote: Definitely check out Barren Earth's The Devil's Resolve on vinyl. As with pretty much all genres of metal, if you want dynamics, vinyl is where its at. MDM really got moving around the mid '90s, and that's right at the same time that CD sound quality took a giant nosedive. The last...

Quote:   You might want to consider The Paradox instead. It's another T50RP mod - better than Dan's albeit more expensive. I have not heard a headphone with a more balanced FR, and that includes the Stax SR-007.   http://referencesounds.com/

Music is much stronger than the vocals, IMO. Her reserved style really isn't too shabby, but she can't keep up with the high energy stuff.

Quote:   No kidding. Fortunately most of the vinyl market is not like this. The problem is when extreme scarcity conspires with demand to drive prices to insane levels. More annoying is when you just can't find the album at all. I missed a chance to buy The Morning Never Came for about...

Quote: Unfortunately yes. Whoracle was the exception, the rest of the albums through RTR were all PD only.

I've gotten a few requests for this, so here's Whoracle on vinyl. Colony will be next. Beware, this album costs a fortune.         http://www.metal-fi.com/in-flames-whoracle/

Quote: Yup, it's good stuff. Mario is one of the best drummers in metal right now and it's awesome to be able to hear what he can actually do. We've got a lot more vinyl coming up, hopefully another Classic Wax this week. Stay tuned!

Quote: I can't say I'm much of a B&W fan, but yeah there are several decent choices in the sub $1000/pr range like the LSA .5 or the baby Silverline, and for the price of an HD800 you can get some great speakers. Combine them with a good used integrated amp and you're most of the way there.

Quote:   Some do. There is no affordable Rockport or Estelon. PSB speakers though are quite reasonably priced and excellent for a large, mainstream speaker co. Some of the PMC, and ProAC models aren't too expensive. Fritz and Odyssey both sell direct and both have very affordable options.

Quote: When you listen to enough material that's DR6, it starts to condition you that it's "normal" and doesn't sound that bad. It's only when you hear the same material on vinyl at DR10-12 that you see just how much you're losing. Amon Amarth's With Oden is a prime example. That album...

Quote:   It depends just how bad the dynamic smashing is. Removing any variation in loudness generally makes music considerably more boring and lifeless as you've said, and that in itself can be tiring. What also often goes along with hyper compression is clipping and audible digital...

Quote: Eh. Jester Race really isn't bad on CD, it's really not far off from the vinyl (picture disc) at all. After that they got progressively worse sounding. From Reroute on they are average at best, and the last few honestly sound pretty crap.

Quote:   Chris really isn't bad at all on King Animal. The CD is bleh, but the vinyl sounds pretty good. He sung in a weird way for Audioslave that made it seem like his voice was shot, but it isn't. Watch them play Black Rain on Conan.
