Based on a friend's SR60 and SR80 and my MS1, I'd say the MS1 is a decent step-up from the SR60. Certainly, tamed highs and the such; but I also thought that the MS1 had a somewhat smoother sound. A tad more pleasant to listen to.

It's been said, but I'll back it up. Some time ago, when I picked up a pair of KSC75s for a friend, i gave them a good testing. I thought they sounded quite like my MS1s, an MS1-lite, if you will. Less detail, but very comparable characteristics, IMHO.
