I must admit that I cheated a little- Ebel supplied the raw, untreated plinth, which I gave a final treatment with fine sandpaper, before applying three coats of Clou wax.

IIRC, the Audio Origami arm is a development of the Syrinx PU3, but with better quality control…

You’ll just have to buy one of those DS Audio centre hole re-orientation gadgets for $$$$$, then…

I can’t remember if I shared the latest episode in the Dual 1019 saga: Now featuring the homemade “ultimate 1019 cartridge”: Generator from a 1970s Shure M44MG cartridge (minus body) Cocobolo wood body from Stanley Engineering Plenty of cyanoacrylate for potting JICO N44-7 nude conical stylus

That is one serious turntable! And not just because it’s the EMT 928’s long lost cousin… I don’t know if I mentioned it before, but that mat was designed to make the handling of 7” singles easy, not to support the record properly or to maximise sound quality. Maybe some experimentation with...

I have also had mixed experiences with Amazon. Sometimes fine, sometimes warped or dished, sometimes with the LP bashed out through the jacket! On average, I return Amazon LPs at least once…

The 103 is much lower than other cartridges (in its stock body). As my 3009 is the S2 Improved, I haven’t tried the 103 in it, as its effective mass is too low. I can imagine that a spacer (such as those made by Stanley) or a cap would help.

I’ve finally finished my “Dual 1019 Special” cartridge: The old Shure M44MG generator was “liberated” from its plastic body (in fact it had to be cut away in pieces, and some revolting brown glue had to be cut and sanded away). This was then placed in a Stanley Engineering cocobolo body. As...

Just ordered the Tone Poet “Blue Train“ (stereo version). I already have the Classic Records reissue, but have read that this is the definitive version (apart from the original, of course!).

BTW, this thing is a PRaT monster! I just need to get the “proper” cartridge on it. Shure M44 body arrived yesterday, N44E stylus (Jico) is in the post, as is a 3mm mahogany custom spacer (to get that VTA issue under control). Alternatively, I may also try a Denon 110 I have knocking around in...
