iFi Audio Nano iDSD discussion + impression

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I opened a support ticket with iFi and got a brilliantly prompt and helpful response. Turns out my Audio Midi app was being a bit glitchy as I found I was also experiencing problems with an E-DAC. A relaunching od Audio Midi has provided a remedy. Sounds...

iFi Audio Nano iDSD discussion + impression

I've just bought an iFi nano iDSD. It's connected to a MacBook Pro playing iTunes ALAC ripped from red book CDs. Headphone and analogue RCA outputs work fine. Am getting no sound from the coaxial SPDIF output - any ideas why please?

    Chord Electronics 2Qute DAC announced

Would someone please tell me what comes in the box on a UK spec 2Qute?   Do you get a USB cable and if so how long?   Are any other cables supplied and if so how long?   Are people generally using the stock cables or upgrading?   I'd be interested in UK available USB 1m and toslink...

Grado SR225e owner: SR325e vs PS500e vs RS2e - which way to upgrade?

I don't understand why you don't arrange a demo so you can judge for yourself? If travelling / accessibility is a problem perhaps you can agree with a dealer to send demo sets on return postage basis? Also, I would consider the opinion of a What HiFi journalist, or one from any other similar...

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions

It's not just about using headphones out of the house. I use my Oppo PM-3 headphones at home with my hifi which is in the same room as a television so that I can enjoy music while my partner watches TV. Closed headphones allow both to enjoy privacy. Of the closed headphones I tried (at UK...

Portable AMP + DAC or a DAP...??

How about an iPhone paired with an Oppo HA-2 DAC/headphone amp?   Works well for me.

OPPO HA-2 Portable Headphone Amplifier/DAC Discussion Thread

I have an E-DAC (which the same, other than lacking the headphone amp I think). In comparison with the HA-2 used as a DAC into an amp and speakers I would say they are pretty similar. Maybe a little more warmth from the E-DAC and a little more detail from the HA-2.

    The GRADO SR-60 Impressions Thread

I've just done some critical listening using various cushions on my 15 year old SR60:   Ranking: 1 - StoreONE replica L-cushions (most balanced sound with most fun, tolerable comfort) 2 - Sennheiser 414 reverse quarter mod (same sound as L-cush, good comfort, look ugly) 3 - Ear Zonk replica...

    Grado e Series

I have a pair of Grado SR60 which are about 15 years old and which I enjoy using in my home office with an iPod (using lossless ALAC files) and an Oppo HA-2 DAC/amp. My musical tastes are mainly rock, blues, prog rock and acoustic rock (e.g. Wishbone Ash, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Jethro Tull, etc.). I...

    iPhone 6 & 6 Plus Audio Quality

I don't think you will exploit the potential benefits of a higher fidelity DAP if you are using heavily compressed music files.   My advice is to rip a couple of CDs to Apple ALAC (lossless files) on iTunes and see if you can hear any difference on you iPhone. If you can then start converting...

    How do you collect music?

I use Spotify Premium (320 kbps) to try out new or unfamiliar music. Anything I like and want to have I either buy on CD which I play on a hifi and also rip to ALAC lossless to use on iTunes and Apple portable devices. I also buy viyl LPs. In my opinion illegally accessing and copying music is...

OPPO HA-2 Portable Headphone Amplifier/DAC Discussion Thread

Yes, I appreciate the quality of lossless music.   My comment was about the quality of the reproduction kit, not the actual music source, when I was referring to enjoying my hifi system over my more modest amp and speakers in my home office.
