Once the battery dies on the micro idsd after the expected life of 3-4 years will the dac only section still work when connected to the laptop USB so it can be be run off line out to a separate HP amp or preamp? Or does battery dead=nothing works on micro idsd?

Let me know how you like the K701s compared to the Denons. I have a Denon D2000 but I'm thinking of getting the K701s as well.

I guess it depends a lot on the kind of music you listen to. I find for classical music I actually enjoy a pair of high end headphones better whereas something that needs the thump of a bass hit its definitely speakers
