Reply to review by 'purplegoat' on item 'KRK KNS8400 Studio Headphones'
The HD280s actually seem dead neutral to me but I could be biased. Definitely the least bassy headphone I've used. Aviators I found lower resolution, bassier, muddy, overall less accurate. I think anyone attracted by what you've said about the 8400 here should also consider the 280 Pro, what...- purplegoat

What other headphones are you comparing these to in the price range? Have you tried the HD280?- purplegoat

REVIEW - Yulong Audio Sabre DA8 Reference DAC
Pretty sure the issue isn't with the DA8, Foobar doesn't have DSD support by default if I remember correctly. I don't have peak meters either on DSD playback. I think the pop is the DA8 switching modes, the same pop happens when going from DAC to amp mode.- purplegoat

HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone
HE-6 is sounding slow on my Denon PMA-750. It's old and I don't think it's been serviced in awhile.. Does anyone know if repairing an old amp will make it faster or is that an inherent advantage to newer amps?- purplegoat

Hi All, Wanted to check in and say I thought the focuspads would be approximately as good as the vegans so it took me awhile to check out the vegans, even after hearing them at the meet. Heed ohhgourami's advice. Right now I'm up to no grills, no grills, soft (not stiff) felt, and vegans --...- purplegoat

Oh Schiit, it's the end of the world! Announcing Ragnarok.
I realize this may be a stupid question but I have a Denon PMA-750 I used for both my speakers and HE-6 (via modded HFM box, so basically taps). Would I see an improvement in quality from my speakers? (I'm assuming I would for my HE-6..) Thanks- purplegoat

speaking of ohhgourami's felt, I replaced the stiff felt with soft felt as per his suggestion. BIG difference. Much better, not longer sounds distant.- purplegoat

Why do you dislike the HD800 now? It was my first time hearing both headphones and I placed the Stax above the HD800 immediately. Wasn't just on the hype train either, I didn't dig the Abyss as much.- purplegoat

I heard the set up and I definitely give the nod to the SR-009, sorry ohhgourami. The HD800's sounded very very good and coherent but the SR-009 had an incredible tactility without any heaviness..- purplegoat

= Hifiman “Fuzzor” Mod = (Driver backwave felt damping modification)
I did that and I believe that is the recommendation. Has anyone tried with soft adhesive back felt vs. stiff? I heard that it is superior- purplegoat

HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone
@Oregonian I'm not sure but I think it creates the desired amount of resistance when in series with the 25ohm ones. Also I'm pretty sure it works as a fuse (I think that's the right word). I put too much current in by accident and it protected the 27 ohm resistors and I think would have...- purplegoat

It's super easy. I accidentally blew out the 10 ohm resistors so I replaced them. Thought it would be difficult because I never soldered before but it only took about 15 minutes and it worked the first time- purplegoat

Hopefully people will chime in beyond this but my experience has been with a HE-adapter that was modified by another HeadFier with a 10ohm Mills and a 27ohm Takman. It's my understanding that the big ones are the 10 ohm and the small ones are the 25ohm by default. Somehow (and here's where it...- purplegoat
