Since modding my '6' (Cotton & foam removal; 50% fuzzor mod; original grills intact; Hard-wired), I'm still delighting in the new presentation with familiar recordings...WOWZA!

FINALLY! You using the felt I sent you back in the day?

My overnight listening session just went final. When I recorded the activity, I noticed the HiFiMAN line all six'ed out:

List some tracks you liked the most with the HE-6s

Those Denons sure does log a lot of time, and the D5K got more time than the D7K - what's up with that?

I've done that timing thing before when I was burning in an equipment. I just created an excel spread sheet and logged the start and end time of my listening session. Most of the I just let it play for hours, let it rest for a few then start it again.

OK so what do you guys think:  Some things he is spot on and some things he is way off.  This review is all over the place.  Keeps saying the HE-6 need lots of voltage.  I think he meant current but I can't tell.

do you record time down every time you listen to music?

Yes. This practice stems from:

- Researching music and having to access Reserved Book Rooms/Reserved Music Rooms
- Writing letters (lots of them by hand)
- Being ceremonial about Music, Writing, Tea ect...

Not really about the gear per se

but it is nice to reflect.

how in the world did you do that

- See 'wuwhere' though, I simply use "Evernote."

Saturday night I definitely enjoyed some Willie Bobo (Latin Jazz Percussionist). Often times, I'm listening to a wide variety of stuff but when I finally post in the "What are you listening to now?" thread, I go with the moment, so some tracks/albums don't get submitted right then and there.

OH, forgot to address the Denon's. I have since sold 'em. The D5000 was my first costly headphone since coming from the speaker world. Loved the D7000 more when I brought that one in later. I enjoy seeing their hours listed as I bring newer cans online inside the listening room as a gauge, if you would.

 You got style!

Those 6s should be stable now. They blossom so nicely with power.

Something about getting them "Hard wired" changed the presentation. Not necessarily better, rather sideways offering a different flav. The cans already have clear-as-a-bell mids. Hard wiring seems to have refined and enhanced some of the info in the middle like Guitar, Synths and micro-detail like that. And Bass, Percussion seems to have become more integrated into the presentation, though it's definitely recording dependent. Guess I'm suggesting the cans have become a bit more refined and mellow all the way around.

Only my environment is preventing me from fully appreciating my listening sessions. Currently, my sessions are often marred by lots of street noise and activities outside. Moving to a quieter neighborhood in September, so very excited! In this hobby, backgrounds, room design and the like matter greatly.

Its both, really.  They need a lot of voltage to drive the peaks, but there has to be a substantial amount of current behind it, or the voltage will never get to where its supposed to go (current limit clipping).
