Well I had a wood pair from release and had an x1 too, sold both sadly because I needed the money. Now I again ordered a pair of x2 and got the Gibson version which is basically the official new version now. I also bought a pair of woox in Italy because they where half the price of the Amazon...

Well they are certainly very good, the MA900 is like a warmer K702 and the K612 is in a way similar to the DT880, but a tad wider soundstage :)

I would call it very neutral, from 500Hz upwards it completely neutral, only thing that may make them not neutral is the bass, but the bass still feels very neutral while listening, to be honest the Q701 peak a lot more, which is not neutral either, both have their signature and both are neutral...

Well it depens, with the X1 output impedance needs to be low and they actually do need some amplification, not much i agree, but some  :)  On my PC soundcard and my phones and Ipad ones, it gets to a listenable level for videos and podcasts, but the volume is not loud enough for serious...

Well if you use the E10, you wont need a soundcard, because the E10 is basically a external soundcard when you use it with USB ;) Lets just pretend its one of the best USB soundcard :D

Did you just state the M100 would even remotely sound as good as the X1s or even surpass it? Oo Because if you did, i find you must have a fairly deranged perception of good sound, the M100 is the best bass head can (Only rivaled by Denon D600, or the Beyerdynamic COP), but compared to the X1...

Agree with the others, both are amazing, AKG K701/2 pretty neutral, nice soundstage,detailed with a slight peak in the upper mids, but nothing major, overall amazing for the money, especially for classic and acoustic. Philips X1 is also neutral, but not in the way that its neutral like the AKGs...

Well pretty easy, you phones seems to have a better internal amp than your PC :)   As for solution, there is the options to buy a dac/amp or just an amp or amp and dac sperate. In my opinion and i do have the X1s and several other headphones, a FiiO E10 or a FiiO E18 is what you are looking...

Yeah, but if you look at comparisons all say the DT880 have less bass then the HD598, the DT880 goes deeper, but the bass isnt as present ;) Depends on what you want now, HD598 is still a pretty warm and pleasurable rich sound, while the DT880 is really neutral and flat sounding in comparison...
