Has anyone tried, or used, the X3 as a DAC on a MacBook or other OSX platform?  Kind of curious if it will work or how to set it up as such.

Well, mine are P66 (about $1.50) and hold 10 each - so yeah, I'd say you've paid too much.  Then again, I saw a 16 SD card 'tray' back in Canada that the local department store was selling for $15.  For that price it really wasn't worth it - I ended up snagging it on clearance for about $4 about...

I actually have several micro SD card cases that I use.. you should be able to find some at your local dollar store.  Here in Manila, Saizen and CD-R King carry them for about $1 each.

https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/51035/what-is-the-difference-between-usb-on-the-go-otg-and-usb-host-mode   The devices you've referred to (both of you) work on hosts/peripherals designed with OTG support.  The Clip does not have this support.  With a little bit of solder and a...

The Sad State Of The So Called Audiophile DAP Market

Here's a reason why: MicroUSB != OTG. OTG requires a special fifth pin that isn't present typically that allows the device to power passive electronics, like say a flash drive.  The MicroUSB connection is strictly for charging and transferring data to/from the device from an actively powered...

Hitting the back button once should send you back to show you the sequence of files that will be played, depending on if you are doing via browsing or categories.  Beyond that though, I don't know of any other way.

Do you need another amp?  No. Could you benefit from another amp... depending on the sound you want and the headphones you're driving, maybe. Honestly, though, this X3 is a great budget package. For the price, the sound and build quality is amazing.  The firmware is rough around the edges...

And something already addressed by Fiio later in that thread:       In short, sounds like they missed that part of the review unit by accident and if this occurs, your device would be covered under the warranty for a replacement.   A big of egg on their faces, but I can't think of a...

Sony PS Vita (and PSP) has a Wolfson DAC!! :-O

The way the Vita is designed, the only way to get a LO is via the dock currently which isn't suitable for gaming but for watching video or as a mini stereo.  If you want to use the headphone jack, sure you can use an amp but that comes with a tradeoff as well.  This is in addition to the fact...

The Sad State Of The So Called Audiophile DAP Market

Makes me glad I left Deadmonton for Manila.  Down the street from me is a small, but really well-stocked audiophile store that always has great customer service and a wide-selection of headphones/DAP to try.  Never could find any Fiio dealer in Edmonton, and now I can go to pretty much any music...

Sony PS Vita (and PSP) has a Wolfson DAC!! :-O

I use the Vita to watch TV shows/movies at the office, currently.   During the day, I re-encode using Handbrake and then sync before heading out.  Once I arrive, slap it on the doc (which has an unaltered LO with no volume control) and feed it into my E06.  Between the screen and the E06 I...

Had my first freeze up, a month into ownership, when quickly switching from one track to another.  However, a little press of the hard reset button and it was back to working in a matter of seconds. Compared to my Clip Zip, which either required a jump start via a USB charger or would reindex...

I can't get MP3s longer than 1 hour to save via Memory Play: Position at all using the latest firmware, so you're at least a bit ahead of me. :/

The Sad State Of The So Called Audiophile DAP Market

Is it linked?  Maybe.  I'm not too understanding about the hardware involved, the finishing on the product (especially if "hand polished") is not cheap.  And user friendly controls?  It is the only player I know of that is designed to be more expensive when you opt for user unfriendly controls!

The Sad State Of The So Called Audiophile DAP Market

Can you afford an iPod Touch + AMP? Then you can afford the X3 which is better in terms of portability and sound quality at cost of the extra media features/games that come with the iPod Touch.  Given how recent it launched, it is having some issues around the edges but it is being worked on...

You can use the headphone jack instead.  The audio will be then adjustable by the onboard hardware and thus saving your vehicle's hardware. It may not be 'pure' audio, but the sound is already going to be quite nice anyways.

Thanks to Joe0Bloggs, I figured out why the files weren't working.  Both the bit rate and sampling were too low.  After some conversion and upsampling, I am pleased to say that I have each and every one working perfectly with proper tags and album art. Thanks for the help!

The Sad State Of The So Called Audiophile DAP Market

When I purchase a DAP from the likes of Sony, Apple, Phillips, or Sansa who have a proven history in the market, you bet I do.  When I purchase it from a relatively obscure and niche company like FiiO, AK, etc - I do so knowing full well I am sacrificing the comfort of a proven track record for...

FiiO X5 preview world tour--tour members, claim your souvenir for the X5 tour! p.123

Well, the E06 gets some loving to manage the audio on my Vita when it is docked (no volume control when routed through the connector) but the E12 is lovingly packed up for now.   It may get resurrected if we ever get the lady's old classic repaired.

FiiO X5 preview world tour--tour members, claim your souvenir for the X5 tour! p.123

That'd be nice, Joe - right now my biggest issue with the X3 is the scrolling and how it handles longer files WRT Memory Play. If the X5 does this a bit better, I may find myself arguing for the upgrade once it becomes available.   My poor FiiO amps are currently on sabbatical given how much...
