Don't be scared if your headphones distort because of EQ, just worry if it's distorting because of excessive voltage and volume because the voice coil can actually end up melting.   I've tried all three and I have to say the Ultrasone Edition 8s are a joke, the Ultrasone Signature DJs are quite good but really uncomfortable, and the Final Audio Design Pandora Hope VIs are incredible.   So, absolutely, the Pandoras. Don't let the prices cloud your mind.

Now, I'm in love with the Shure SRH1540s, but the headband cuts my head in half. Do you have that problem? I will no doubt buy them again, but that headband is teeeeerrible.    

I think that headphones with a great driver, but not optimal tuning will always benefit greatly from an EQ. Like, My Perfect Sound Didos are a bit too dark for me, but with an EQ I managed to make them sound VERY good!!! The biocellulose driver in them is very capable, but it shines brightest...

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but the HD600 is an incredibly euphonic headphone (more than HD600). It's simply magic!
