"jacks are on the fritz" meaning they will cut out if the 3.5mm plug is side loaded or put in a certain position. Otherwise the amp works perfectly fine.   Sounds like a have a defective unit.

I'm very certain that you will hear a big difference in comparison to your laptop's sound card. Especially if you are already maxing out the volume. Either you like your music extremely loud or the headphones aren't even close to being properly driven 

I'd say only get the e7 if you can make good use of the DAC feature. It's a fantastic little amp/DAC combo for the money but if you aren't going to be plugging it into a computer regularly there's no point in paying extra for that feature.

Well for a similar price I'm between the Grub and Behringer. Leaning towards the Grub though so I can get some SMD soldering under my belt and make it so I have a DAC with a switch between the PIMETA and speakers all in one unit. It might end up being a bit more expensive but I think I can live...

Hmm, I didn't consider trying optical DAC. My comp has both a COAX and Optical output. I'll have to check that out.
