In the market for open-back headphones <$300 soon.
I have the Sennheiser HD660S and the AKG K371 already. I like the mids on the Sennheiser... but I just can't stand the Sennheiser veil. I'm willing to get something with slightly inferior mids if it means getting something with a more neutral sound signature. I'd prefer moderately good...- BetaWolf

Looking for a good amp setup under $1000.
I own an Atom stack and that's pretty much it. I'd like something higher end to power my HD660S, as well as give me more upgrade options. I'd prefer an all-in-one unit like Jotunheim. I'd like a neutral sound signature and better separation and detail than my Atom stack. Any suggestion or ideas...- BetaWolf

I own the Atom stack and like it. Now, I want a more fun amp+DAC setup < $300.
I've been listening to this for a few months now. I like how it doesn't color the audio at all. Powering my headphones, it's very unbiased. Now, I'd like something that's going to make the highs sparkle a bit and make the bass sound more punchy and tight. Objectivity and measurements be damned...- BetaWolf

Need some good open or semi-open for mids for <$120
I'm not going to be buying this for a while. I've got an HD660S coming in the mail soon! However, I'm going to have days where I don't feel like doing critical listening. Those days where you just feel like kicking your shoes off and listening to your favorite songs and not worry about...- BetaWolf

I need an introductory, non-shouty <$200 open or semi-open set to run off of my Atom stack
I am currently running an AKG K371 off of this Atom stack. I find it to be harsh and shouty in many songs, in a way that causes a lot of fatigue. I also own a Takstar Pro 80 which does not have this problem. The mids are a tad flat in this headset, but comboing it with the Atom stack is fatigue...- BetaWolf

What do I need in order to get virtual 7.1 surround sound from headphones?
I'm a little confused about the matter. Until recently, I was under the impression that a Creative E5 or X7 could do it, but then I read that this was only SBX and would only work with a PC. I want to use a game console and a blu-ray player. Do I need a full-fledged home theater receiver?- BetaWolf

Aune X1S question
I just bought a pair of 60 Ohm headphones (Takstar Pro 80, on the way), and just saw a group buy for the Aune X1S. People are mentioning something about the "rule of 1/8" in which the output impedance of your amp should be less than 1/8 of your headphones. People are also saying that the Aune...- BetaWolf

Audio Engine A1 or Sound Blaster E5/G5 for me?
<EDIT> I mean Audio Engine D1. Hey, I'm going to be using a Takstar Pro 80 on a PC and would like to have positional audio. My onboard audio supports Creative SBX and can process it and output it in Linear PCM format via optical. Optical input also means I can use it on a game console to get...- BetaWolf

Need a good surround DAC/amp combo
So, I'm looking for either a mixamp or an external sound card. I don't currently intend on using this on console, only PC. Going to be used with Takstar Pro 80. I'm looking for something that's more going to drive those while providing "some" level of positional audio. I may also use this with a...- BetaWolf

Looking for a good sealed set <$150. Here is what I've tried:
I have tried a AKG K702 and Sennheiser HD600, both plugged into a Nuforce Icon HDP. Pretty extreme improvement over what i was used to, but I've decided after a long time that it's really not my style. I don't appreciate the soundstage and detail the way you audiophiles do, so I'm looking to...- BetaWolf

Does anyone regularly use "portable" sets for home use?
Bowers & Wilkins P7, PSB M4U1, Sennheiser Momentum, and the like? I've always preferred the sound produced by closed sets over open sets. I cannot pinpoint why. Perhaps I prefer the intimacy of the "in your head" sound. Perhaps the reverberation inherent to closed cans gives it a certain...- BetaWolf

How do I enable the op-amp on motherboards with integrated amps?
Just upgraded some components on my motherboard. It has an isolated, shielded sound circuit with a Realtek ALC1150 codec and Texas Instruments OPA1652 op-amp. The manufacturer's page advertises it as being able to drive 600 Ohm, studio grade headphones. I have my AKG K702 connected to the...- BetaWolf

Looking for good speakers for classic rock under $80
So my father is sold on getting a turntable for Christmas. He doesn't want us to spend more than $100 on the whole system. I know you can't really get a good turntable AND speakers for under $100, so I'm stretching the budget to $150. I've got an AT-LP60 picked out for the turntable, but are...- BetaWolf

Looking for a sealed or well-isolated set with good detail <$400...
...that isn't the K550. I'd like something that has a good clamp-like fit (a la HD558), which doesn't require a crap ton of fiddling around to get a good seal. Preferred (p)leather earpads and detailed sound. Velour is acceptable if the set still provides good isolation. Soundstage isn't as...- BetaWolf

<$400 set of closed cans for immersive gaming and heavier music?
I've had my K702s (non Annie) for quite a bit now. I'm quite impressed with the sound. It works wonders for smoother music, like classical and light soundtracks. For games, the wide soundstage is good at picking up positional cues (even without the best positional audio). However, they seemed...- BetaWolf

Voices sound... tinny on my setup on Blu-ray disks.
I'm using a Panasonic DMP-BDT320 as a source for my audio setup (I know, an optical video disc player isn't the best source) going through an optical Toslink cable to a NuForce Icon HDP and AKG K702. I played a movie on it, and while the soundtrack sounded more or less as good as CD, character...- BetaWolf

Hardware equalizers?
Hello all. I'm doing some site browsing, and cannot find any information here about the matter. Amp + Dac combo with optical for home theater <$400?
I'm looking for a decent combo, possibly an integrated unit, for less than $400. Must have optical in. It's for immersive gaming and media watching. That is, Wii U, animated films, and anime. Bass isn't important. Source is Panasonic DMP-BDT320. Headphones are AKG K702. Would like...- BetaWolf

Advice for a first-time amp customer?
Hello all. I'm looking to buy a mid budget amp ($150-250) for my AKG K702. The source is a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium (non-HD version), and later a Creative Sound Blaster ZxR. I'm currently quite satisfied with my setup on its own, but would like something to extend the bass a bit...- BetaWolf

Who here actually prefers colored headphones?
Hello, I'm still relatively new to the community, as evidenced by my postcount. I've only recently gotten my first set of cans, a neutral and uncolored open-ear set with a very flat frequency response graph. It's a fairly highly regarded set on these forums, and I can see why: all sounds that...- BetaWolf

A good CD player + turntable combo... does such a thing exist?
I know dedicated components are probably better, but I'm considering this as a gift for some people. The people in question are not audiophiles, but I don't want to skimp on the quality.- BetaWolf

~$60 budget. Need IEM advice.
Looking for a "decent" pair of IEMs to go with a PMP I just purchased. I'm not a basshead of any sorts, just need something with a good bang for the buck. Don't want to spend more than this since every pair of IEMs I've owned so far have broken on me. Inline mic and volume control...- BetaWolf

Why don't closed headphones cause the conch shell effect?
So, I wondered what my new cans (K702) would sound like as a closed pair. I covered the grill with my hands, and I heard the conch shell effect. That sound you hear when you put a shell up to your ear, since people say you can "hear the ocean" that way. Why doesn't this happen with closed...- BetaWolf

Upgrade help! New sound card or amp?
My headphones, the AKG K702 (non Annie), arrived yesterday. I was blown away by the sound, having never heard anything like it. I want to upgrade my computer hardware to keep up with it.
