    Not ipressed with 5g Ipod.

One thing that I misdiagnosed was the fact thath it seemed that after about 2 hours the perfomance of the Ipod fell off a cliff. I couldn't imagine what was causing this so I assumed it was a battery or heart issue. I believe I've isolated the problem. The E500s appear to slowly slide out of my...

My new equipment is showing just how bad the Ipod is.

I should make it clear that this is not an ongoing issue of continously obviuos high frequency distortion. This is something that occurrs sproradically and at specific points in a recording ie 2:36 into "Spies" on Coldplay's Parachutes (right channel). It did not occur when the same ripp was...

    Not ipressed with 5g Ipod.

I just got my first Ipod (5g 30gig). With decent headphones like my AKG K701s or Shure e500s driven by the RSA Hornet (m) I can, at times, hear actual distortion in the high frequencies. In addition the sound quality seems to fall off a cliff about as the battery drains. Has anyone else noticed...

My new equipment is showing just how bad the Ipod is.

I was under the impression (from reviews) that the Ipod was quite a decent source but running high quality headphones like the AKG K701 through the RSA Hornet just reveals the flaws. I was surprised to find, not just weaknesses in the Ipod, but actual (and fairly pronounced) high frequency...

Thanx Brent, I think you've provided the final piece of info that both explains why I heard a difference in the 2 formats (WAV/ALAC) and reconciles the fact that in theory there should be no difference. Instead of operating on both, "sound check" was only being implemented on the ALAC file...

I think I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you were saying that the "volume" information was contained in the origonal tag that is created when ripping to FLAC, AIFF, ALAC etc etc. If you mean the Itunes evaluates the volume of each song and then adds this info into the ALAC tag...

Hi D, From what you are saying I had soundcheck essentially turned off because all my files start off as WAV (ripped to my Slimserver library using EAC). I then transfer into Itunes, add artist/title info manually for each CD, and convert to a different format there . That means the tag info...
