is it okay to use glue to repair a driver?

I snapped a picture of the driver in question. What I mean is that a small bit of the dust cap has become unglued from the cone.   http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/189/img0018abp.jpg/   You can see the damage at the right side of the dust cap.   However, based on what you guys...

is it okay to use glue to repair a driver?

I grabbed a pair of second hand B&W bookshelf speakers a couple days ago and I recently noticed that the right speaker's woofer distorts at around ~100 Hz. The left speaker is perfectly fine.   I examined the driver for a bit and I noticed that a small part of the cone at the center of the...

Not happy with my current phones.........what next?

Perhaps you can try the Sennheiser HD 600/650. They do sound significantly different from the 595, and have long been regarded as a very musical headphone.   How high is your budget? The Audeze LCD-2 is said to be very natural sounding.

Yes, Another Thread about the AKG K702.

Quote: I think the K701s sound veiled when not driven properly, which is why many people say they sound so much more clearer and dynamic when amped.

The Best Headphones Plus Amp for under $300?

Hi,   Headphones + Amp < $300 is sort of a fallacy (i'll explain).   Not many cans under 300 need an amp except the K701s and the Senn HD600s and the Beyerdynamics. For those that need an amp, the cost of the cans ($200++) and a decent amp (minimum $200++ as well) will overshoot your...

    AKG K702.... What amplifier ?

I would think M-Stage if you're on a budget, Burson HA160 if you're on a loose budget, and the HA160D if you have no budget. All great amps (and decent dac) in their own respect.   SPL amps are also very good, but are more studio oriented in my opinion, so not too sure about how auditor and...

    Grado SR80/SR80i Problem?

I experienced a similar problem with my IEMs before. It could just be that the plug has become loose or bent (even slightly is enough to destroy the connection)   Try using your warranty. If not, perhaps you can find a replacement cable.   I'm not too sure about DC offset problems and...

    Comfortable closed can recommendations

Quote: Not true. Each can has their unique sonic signature. Just because someone likes one doesn't mean the others are inferior. I would say that SQ wise all 3 are around the same level, with the 840s being perhaps a tad higher.   I own the DT770s and heard the SRH840s before. If...

Just got the Koss Portapro - I wasted $30.00

Quote: I concur. The portapros are good at their price point. But that isn't saying that much when compared to other great cans like the senn 600s which are also great for their price (which happens to be more than 10x more)

    $200 - $400 headphone - correct my conclusions/make inputs/recommendations

I don't think its worth such a drastic price difference, though I haven't heard the 990 pros, only the premiums. Especially since in the US the price difference between the 2 is much smaller (maybe about $50?) I don't see why it should be so expensive in Europe though... Aren't they made in...

Do you prefer a big or small soundstage?   Seems as though you like audio technica sound sig. Have you tried the AD700 or AD900?

Help me to choose my new headphone!!! (<= 250 USD)

Its best to try it out than to take the word of other people with regards to comfort :D If you can't, check with someone who has both cans. I have only tried the denons for a short while but they are quite comfortable.

Newbie Question -Is Sennheiser HD598 An Overkill For An Ipod Touch/Iphone?

What do you mean by overkill? Not being able to drive the headphone? if so, then probably not.   There is no 'most' cost efficient pair of cans. It depends on the ears and tastes in music.   As for your amplifier, does it have a 1/4" plug? If not, you may need a special adapter. But its...

What do I do for "burn in"?

You can just listen normally and let the burn in process make take its course. If you really want, you can play music for a couple of hours and listen to it at hourly intervals to detect improvements. If you really really want, you can download pink/white noise or frequency sweeps and play them...

Wanting some opinions on a few phones...........

Just take note that the Grados and Sennheisers are both open cans. The senns need amping to shine, the grados to a smaller extent. I'm not sure whether the AKG 242s are in the same league as the other cans.

    A700's and AD700s

Both are not built for portability, as they are big and bulky and look kinda goofy. Also, the AD700s are open backed, and thus leak sound out and in easily.   And yes, many people say the A700s are inferior to the AD700s.

    2 Questions. 1 Thread.

Does your girlfriend take those headphones out? If she does the 770s may not be such a good choice as they are bulky.   And an amplifier can improve the sound, but it shouldn't change it. Think of cans that are not powered properly as doors that are half open. Not everything comes in right...

    Cans for an aspiring producer.

DT770 has razor highs? That wasn't quite my impression but never mind :D   I'm not sure whether a Fiio E9 can fully drive K701s but it is a very good amp. Anyone can confirm this?   The AKG K701s have long been described as flat and accurate, but do note that its highs are slightly...

Thirding the 770s, seems to cut it for what you need.   It has heavy bass and recessed mids, however.

I've been told this is the place to go to ask about headphones; looking to get my first quality pair!

In ears isolate better, which is what you need the most imo. They're closer to your ear canal making it easier to hear and at lower volumes compared to fullsized cans.   However, if you still want a set of cans, I recommend against the grados as they leak sound both in and out very easily...

Just got my ATH-M50. What's with the overwhelmingly positive reviews?

Definitely sounds like good ol' sibilance to me. :D   You think the M50s are sibilant? Just wait till you try the beyerdynamic dt990s :D   And have you tried the M50s with different sources? The sibilance may be a result of or be amplified by bright or grainy sources.
