Looking for neutral (studio) headphones with good isolation

Also looking for headphones with very good isolation. Currently alternating between DT-770m (80 ohm) and work-supplied Bose Quiet Comfort 25 (depending on how loud it is) I would prefer greater isolation than the DT-770 (which is rated at 35db, not that I believe that; it's one of the highest...

Looking for good sound isolating headphones

Ok. Anything out there better than the Bose Quiet Comfort 25?   That's the top on that list (excluding the wireless and IEM options)

Looking for good sound isolating headphones

So, at work, they just moved us to an "Open layout" plan, where an entire floor of over 100 people has very few separating walls. I've been using a DT770m, which worked OK before when I was working in an open room with only a dozen people in it, but now I'm dealing with 100+. I'm sensitive to...

Good headphones for a loud office environment?

Quote: Not really the point of why I'm buying them. It's to block out distractions so that I can focus on work. Obviously, I do want to have music playing, and I want it to sound good, but I'm not going to have it very loud.   I'm kind of iffy on Philips as a brand, but the Uptown is at...

Good headphones for a loud office environment?

Bump. As for IEMs, I have some Shure SE535s, which have a fairly thin stem, but I still can't really use them for long periods of time, even with Olive and Comply tips (which I do prefer out of the various ones that I've tried). They keep the AC up pretty high at the office, so ears getting hot...

Good headphones for a loud office environment?

Budget: up to $400 used Main concerns: blocking sudden sharp noises; active noise cancelling is not very important, because the only constant noise is a fairly benign air conditioner, but there's lots of talking, coughing, typing, etc. I also need a set comfortable enough to wear for 4-8 hours...

The Audeze LCD-2 Ortho thread (New)

That angled connector should do exactly what I need. Thanks.

The Audeze LCD-2 Ortho thread (New)

Hi. I'm looking for a replacement cable for my LCD-2. The main problem that I have is that the connector of the stock cable sticks out too far for my current PC case. Something that's at least an inch shorter at the termination point, as well as more flexible around the connectors to the...

Do most people who invest in high end head-fi listen to just CD's or vinyl?

I mainly use CDs because I don't want to fiddle around with menus when I want to just listen to music :)

How much is too much to buy headphones?

Dollar for dollar, the point of diminishing return is well under $100. I've got a number of headphones, ranging from the M-50 to the LCD-2, and while the improvement between the two is IMO, huge, the price difference is also around 10x. If you compared the M50 to one that costs a tenth of its...

Is it important to level the CD player?

Well, if it's a crappy CD player, it might scratch the disks. But if that's the case, you probably need a new CD player, anyway.

    Smartphones as Sources

I've got a Droid 2, which I would not recommend as a source. The internal electronics aren't that great, so it adds a fair amount of noise to the signal.

    Can you "hear" absolute silence?

I've got tinnitus, too. My ears are particularly sensitive, and even things like heating and cooling make it worse. While I've avoided loud music (I generally listen in the 50-60db range), between an air show my parents took me to as a kid and several bouts of severe illness, my ears are none...

Best option to get stereo audio out of HDMI?

I'm already using a dedicated headphone amplifier, and I'd like to use a dedicated stereo speaker amplifier as well, instead of a receiver (no real interest in surround). My TV does have optical audio out when using HDMI, which I can use with a normal DAC, but I'll be missing out on some of the...

Are you backing up your digital collection ?

For my music, I have an off-site backup (carbon copy of my iTunes directory hooked up to my work PC, updated whenever I import a bunch of new CDs), but my documents and other files... I have another external hard drive for those, but it's hooked up to my PC most of the time.   ...Yeah, it's...

Wow, Upgading Your Power Suppy Really Does Improves Audio Quality!!

I think that voltage ratings are severely overrated. I was running two high-end video cards for a while (Radeon 5870s), and when I hooked up a device to measure power usage, I never saw it go over 450 watts. By comparison, my HTPC uses around 50.   I do use a fairly high-end power supply...

Looking for some good earbud style portables

I have some good IEMs (Triple-Fi 10), but when I'm exercising, they reflect my heartbeat too loudly to be usable and aggravate my tinnitus, so I'm looking for one that doesn't need to be placed in the ear canal.   My budget is around $200, and working well unamped with rock music and some...

    Bit depth

If the jump from 16 to 24-bit depth mainly has to do with the dynamic range of sound, and isn't likely to be perceived due to the dynamic range already allowed by 16-bit, why is the jump from 8 to 16-bit sound so instantly noticeable, even on very poor speakers?   I remember listening to a...

Where do we hit the law of diminishing returns?

I got a pair of floor standing speakers that retailed for $200/speaker at a thrift store for $45 for the pair. They're pretty good, too.   Going above that, is diminishing return, which gets increasingly more steep the further up you go.

Is constant tweaking worth it? Or are we forgetting to just enjoy the music?

In my setups, I researched everything I've bought, and I'll probably avoid any further replacements.   Every component that I've ever purchased (excluding the HD-650, which I sold), is still in use and still has a purpose. The only thing I can see myself replacing is my at-work headphones...

USB cable supposedly improving DAC sound quality? How can I take other posts seriously after that?

I hate optical cables, mostly due to their fragility. The only one in my setup is from the PS3, and only because they didn't include digital coax.   I prefer to stay out of the more questionable angles entirely.     ...but I have to admit that I'm running Monster speaker cable to my...

Headphones are great, but will never be speakers...

I've only read the first and last posts of the thread, and I do agree.   I recently moved into a larger place, allowing me the space for speakers, and the used $45 pair  of floor-standing speakers I picked up (which were $200 each new... which is why used is (usually) the best way to go) can...

    Headphones for Walking

I think that the noise blocking capabilities of IEMs are greatly exaggerated. My Triple Fi 10v blocks more sound than my actual earplugs, but I still hear way more traffic and TV noise than I'd like, and certainly enough to be safe.

    Noise blocking headsets over iems?

Well, except I already own IEMs. I also assume that a headset designed to block noise would be much more effective than closed headphones, as well as cheaper.
