Grado/Senn/AKG - help me pick given my tastes

A number of you recommended the HD650 in this thread and at the meet it was my favorite headphone. I didn't hear the RS-1 with the same amp as the 650, but I can imagine they'd sound very good when setup right. I liked their punchiness... AKG K701 was fine also... Enjoyable....good...

Official NYC Spring 2010 Meet Saturday, March 13th

Got home a little while ago... It was my first meet, and I had a lot of fun! Met quite a few members and they were all very cool, and everyone was pretty generous with the gear. I was surprised how much listening I was able to do...this headphone world is a breath of fresh air!! I love...

    Questions about the Grado GS1000s?

    Questions about the Grado GS1000s?

All this talk about piercing highs is gonna give me the same headache as actually listening to them. There is such a thing as too laid back but too aggressive is just as bad if not worse. Don't have experience with any Grado phones so I'll refrain from making any definitive statements but...

    upgrade amp or headphones?

I would recommend getting the new amplifier, assuming you know for sure that it is better than the one you currently have. I'm more a fan of amps than speakers/headphones, and feel you should only improve speakers when there are limitations to your current speakers (mostly enclosures that are...

The difference between a pro-audio person, a DIY person and a true audiophile

My thoughts: 1) Pro Audio vs. High End Audio - Mostly I've noticed the pro guys aim more for "accuracy", neutral sound, efficiency, reliability, etc. Everything is technical to them, the soul and passion not there (as much). The high end guys, a lot of them want some form of coloration in...

    New member intro!

Thanks for the welcome....I'll also be sure to check my wallet at the door! It's fascinating to see so many people saying this when the headphone hobby (to my knowledge) is cheaper than home audio speakers, and car audio....you guys must be hardcore! El Doug, I'll seeya next month at the show!

If you had $5000 to spend on a DAC what would you buy?

I would get an Audio Note DAC 3.1 if it's available for under $5k, otherwise I'd go with the 1.1x. If you want to talk about high end, this is a company that sells their flagship DAC around $75k, flagship phono amp for $35k, flagship power amp for $200k. Their top speakers only go for $50k...

    New member intro!

Thanks for the welcome guys!! My wallet has been disliking me since 2001, and then in 2006 it started to loathe me. So tell me in preparation.....just how much bleeding is there with headphones? I would imagine the good news is that issues like room treatment are non existent, and you...

Grado/Senn/AKG - help me pick given my tastes

I'm curious which of these 3 I'll like the most based on my listening tastes. My experience is mostly with speaker brands and so forth and I know pretty much the type of sound I like. I love strong midrange, warm, relaxing with good midbass.....rolled off on top and very bottom. My...

    What happened to Grommes PHI-26???

I did some searches here and could not find any threads on this amp.... My buddy whose opinion I trust used to sell these and recommends them highly. I'm strictly a tube guy these days and would like to know about amps that sound like the PHI-26. Or maybe Grommes has a replacement in the...
