    The Grado HF2--It's For Real

Sheesh. Grado targets a product specifically for a particular enthusiast community, and devotes a portion of the proceeds to that community, and you're disappointed? I could see being disappointed that the HF2s are outside of your price range -- they're certainly outside of mine at the...

    DT770 Pro - Should I send back my SR80s?

Before I lost them in a move, I had a pair of DT770/80s and Alessandro MS-1s, and they made a perfect complement to one another. The Beyers were excellent for movies and gaming, with solid isolation, deep bass, and an impressive soundstage. Positionals were nearly as good as using a 5.1...

    Beyerdynamic Seal

I don't have the seal problem, but I find the DT770 just sounds better when worn slightly forward on the head. I wear them with the rear of my ears almost touching the pads.

    Xiang sheng 708b pre amp-valve?

I can vouch for the Russian 6N3P-EB as a driver tube. The only output tubes I've used (other than the godawful stock tubes) are NOS Russian 6N23P-EBs. I was disappointed by the 708B when it first arrived as well. Lots of background noise, no bite at all. I figured I'd try some new tubes...

$1000 For a Surround Speaker setup

I'm in almost exactly the same boat as the OP, so maybe we can help each other out. My sister is looking for a music/movies setup, with emphasis on music, wants to keep it relatively small because she still lives in Manhattan, is fine with a 2.1 setup but wouldn't oppose the ability to add...

Stuck in house with 1950s wiring...

Will a UPS do any good without a ground? I know (or at least think I do...) that surge suppressors work by feeding excess current through to ground, so they just don't do any good without a functional ground.

Stuck in house with 1950s wiring...

Like it says, I've just moved into a duplex with some ancient wiring. No ground except in the kitchen and bathroom (i.e. where the landlord was required by law to upgrade), and the lights dim every time my neighbor's laundry machine kicks on. Not great for audio. I'm not paying to run a...

    Calling Texas Head-Fiers!

Thanks for the recommendations. Steaks sound like a good bet. Now to figure out where the heck I am.... Nothing but creepily empty skyscrapers in the neighborhood around the Fairmont.

    Calling Texas Head-Fiers!

So my wife's firm has its annual Christmas party in Dallas this weekend, and the companion fare was cheap, so we figured we'd make a long weekend out of it. I just now realized that I have no idea what to do in Dallas. Any ideas? The only specific question I've got is about restaurants...

    Sub-$300 Upgradeitis Cure? Help!

Lack of an amp will kill most of those options. At least from what I've heard, the Denons are a pretty good bet unamped.

    Denon D2000 a good all-rounder?

Oh, don't worry about me, that was just the jealousy talking.
