    SoundMAGIC PL50 - $49.99 shipped + other SoundMAGIC products :D

I'd just go comply if that was the case. I've placed my order, can't wait to see how they fare against formally-owned nuforce. The mids really bothered me on that phone, and the bass presence was hit or miss (amazing on some tracks, okay to a bit oppressive on others) for since I mix genres...

    C1/2 vs S2 vs pl-50 vs...?

"all around SQ balance for all music" is a pretty vague term. give us an idea of what sort of bass (weight, how hard it should hit), how upfront you'd like the mids to be, and other details that might be of help. At this price point you will not find good soundstage for the most part, so don't...

    Yuin PK3 OR OK3?

I've read that the OK3 takes the strengths of the pk3 (low end) and pk2 (highs, though less overbearing) and combines them to a very price-effective bud-phone. Should my pk3's falter, they will probably be my next buy. However, this review states that they're not far from the PK2 because of...

    SoundMAGIC PL-50 released, received, reviewed!!!

hmm, mark, seeing as you've tried klipsch customs from 1-3, how would you stack the 3's against the PL50 as far as warmth and soundstage are concerned? If I go with the PL50 it means I can add an amp to the mix, but really I'm looking for an awesome IEM to provide a big enough sound to at least...

    Shure E4C vs Nuforce 8

for unrelated comparisons that might help, my E4C's bass response is about a notch above the Super.fi 3 from UE, and maybe 3-4 db less than the SE530, both heard through foamies. E4Cs are great if you like flat sound sigs but if you want mid-bass presence look elsewhere.

    Yuin PK3 or OK3 ?

^exactly, though if the OP doesn't mind and has a good player EQ then the PK3 should be just fine (comparable price to the koss and senns so no worries/remorse). Even not being a basshead I found both the senns and koss to be great if you tune the lower frequencies down just a little.

    $50 or under IEMs help?

JVC air cushions (fx66) are a stable model that, while requiring some good burn in time, are "bass" oriented and are $20-ish dollars. If you want something less warm and more impactual with bass, JBL220s are the same price range and offer a more 'dynamic' sound with less emphasis on midrange and...

    Yuin PK3 or OK3 ?

If you're slanted towards warmer bass then the PK3 will do you better especially considering price/performance. OK3s seem to be more 'tuned' and while they have their strengths, for quantity of bass the PK-series seem to be doing better. However why stop at the Yuins when you get...

    Headphone Recommendations for a Friend: ES7 vs HD280 vs D1001 vs MDR-V6

If he likes his stuff tighter in sound, HD280s. Denons are fluffier in a way, not as engaging, but I imagine better for anything that requires soundstage (movies, gaming alike). Comfort is a very relative thing, but hearsay and reviews always praise Denon phones. The D1001's also more portable...

How to explain the money put into this hobby :)

Most parents (even my own) don't set steady examples of this kind of stuff, period. I bought all my games and even the PS1 when it was $200 retail; as I get older, I feel that I get stingier, which is why this whole headphone deal is a bit if a pain since you begin to notice many nuances in...

Looking for best headphones under $100

Another vote for the MS-1. You'll want sennheiser pads for comfort, or bowl pads for some staging depending on your taste. However, despite truths in yale's words, I'd never use the MS-1s in a library if I was sitting within 20 feet of another person. Even at lower settings I can hear them...

    Best IEM for Grado lovers?

The stax has its own amp, though. If anything, you could probably get close with any balanced IEM (maybe even the affordable Super.fi 3) and couple it with an amp that will raise the midrange (grado's strong point) a little. For sure, you will not want a bass-heavy or super-punchy phone since it...

New Panasonic HTX9, high-end version of the HTX7

It'd be interesting as to whether that would radically change the htx-series' signature; a generally aggressive sound with recessed mids. Good with warmer sources. Dampening might make it more balanced; though the staging would suffer unlike the much larger ath-a-series from audio technica...
