Shanling M3 Ultra - New Update for our Compact Android Portable Player

I got my hands on a M3 Ultra and it has a strident sound, something peaking in the upper midrange, lower treble. EQ is turned off. Certainly not a warm sound. Tried numerous and reliable IEM’s, spike is still there. Any thoughts?

I have had my M3 Ultra for a week and have used it everyday, I am really liking it. It sounds great and is working out perfectly as a smaller, lighter, handier and more conveniently portable DAP than my FiiO M11 Plus.

It has plenty of power for IEM and it even does a decent job with Dan Clark Aeon Noire and HD600. No it isn’t my preference for them but during a quick test it did just fine.

Tidal and Apple Music work perfectly, the small screen is big enough to be comfortable to use, the DAP is light enough to carry in a pocket when out for a walk and the button layout makes it easy to control tracks through a pocket without even having to reach in. In that situation it replaces a Shanling UP5, I much prefer the M3 Ultra and the extra weight is hardly noticeable in a pocket.

I have used its line out into another amp and that works great and USB into another DAC does a great job also.

A great bonus is the battery life. I listened to Apple Music downloaded playlists for 9 hours straight today with the M3 playing constantly, about 7 hours using Shanling ME700 out of the 3.5mm and about 2 hours with S12 out of the 4.4mm and the battery was right on 50%.

Just ordered one. I've been looking for a new DAP with more storage since I found my Cowon Plenue D2 floating in my pocket when I went for a run during a Storm :unamused:

I'm pretty happy with the M3U so far. A few minor niggles for me are some of the Album Art looks dreadful, blurred and not clear. The lack of gapless is really annoying, I have a lot of live Albums and a lot of Metal Albums where songs bleed seamlessly into each other, it spoils the listening experience. It's also hard to locate where to update the firmware (A home button could be useful unless I missed it :p ).

I haven't tried streaming yet, I have a huge library of Music all bought and sourced officially or burnt from old CD's, so I'm still wading through some old favourites. I'm not sure if I'll ever be a fan of Streaming, seems to me to be convenience for end users is winning the war against paying decent royalties to Artists 🤷‍♂️

I appreciate that I could download apps to play Music gapless and improve the Album Art etc. but it would be nice if it could be done 'in-house' to avoid bloating the M3U with Apps.

Bought a 512MB card, think I may need to go bigger (This was primarily the reason why I chose the M3U - storage).

It's a great DAP, I haven't used it a lot but enough.

It seems to hit most of the benchmarks that most end users will require, form factor, storage, utilities, sound etc but I feel that if the problems I mentioned above were remedied through firmware updates it would satisfy a lot of end users.

I may buy Jeteffects (Jetaudio) from the Google Store to customise the sound more as I really miss that from my Cowon PD2 :triportsad:

Firmware updates are counter intuitive. Look for the purple support button, firmware updates are accessed there.

Bought this second hand and it arrived today. My first impressions are amazing. It responds fast and the sound is amazing but as I am just starting in this hobby and my ears aren't super sensitive I will refrain from making comparisons but I am very glad with my purchase. I am a bit surprised that this topic only has 5 pages? But I guess most people on here go for the more expensive DAPs

I'm a new satisfied owner of the M3U! Just looking some suggestions about the best player app to have bit-perfect listening. Any hint? More in general, is there any specific setting on the device or is just a question of player? Thanks to anyone that can help me!

Our AGLO system provides bit-perfect output for all major music or streaming apps.
You can see sampling rate displayed at the top of the screen, just check if it matches the file and should be good to go.
