@Shanling Can you tell me what sound signature Shanling M3 Ultra will have? Warmer than Shanling M3X? Warmer than Shanling M7? I would like to get a compact device with a neutral tonal balance similar to the Shanling M7. To my ears, Shanling M3X at low gain slightly emphasizes low frequencies and simplifies high frequencies. Compared to the Shanling M7, of course.

M3 Ultra is tuned to be a bit warmer than M3X.

Surprised no one is talking about this player more considering how popular and well rated the M3X was. I got mine delivered on Friday from @MusicTeck. I haven't had a chance for a long listening session yet, but based on my usage so far, this player is a lot better than I remember the M3X being. It's fast, not laggy, apps work great. The better Snapdragon 665 processor and extra GB of RAM really make a difference.

@Shanling, the player came with Firmware 1.04, and when I checked randomly to see if there was an update, it prompted me to download Firmware 1.06. Can you please let me know what changed between firmware 1.04 and 1.06?

It seems the announcement thread is seeing all the action but I’d rather post here. I am considering the M3 Ultra as a complement to my M8, for scenarios where I need to carry something smaller and less expensive, basically as an alternative to my Qudelix-5K at times when I’d enjoy having an all-in-one device with quick Android. It’s difficult to assess how much of a downgrade it is comparing to the M8, and how much of an upgrade over the 5K. I know getting the M8 didn’t stop me from enjoying the sound out of the Qudelix, and I like that the M3 Ultra throws in a separate amp secti9n instead of relying on the 9219’s integrated amp like the 5K does. Tapping everyone! Notably @Shanling

I’m not really into Hiby’s R5gen2, but I also consider the DX170. Both cost about the same here this week. The M11S is on the too-big and heavy side.

Well, everything apart from M7 and M9 are downgrade from M8

But I think M3 Ultra will serve fine for the on-the-go situations. It's tuned warmer than the original M3X, so closer to the M8 and its audio quality will be above Bluetooth Amps.

Thanks! For my taste pretty much any DAP out today would be a downgrade from the M8
What put me on to Shanling products was the M6 21, which had that thicker, slightly sirupy tone only the N3Pro had. The M8 of course combines that with ultimate accuracy and detail. How does the M3 Ultra compare to the M6 21 in your mind? I remember briefly auditioning an old UP, the first or maybe the 2nd, and that was a bit congested. I don’t expect the M3U to sound like that at all, especially with that airy, nimble DAC.

Dear Shanling,

I recently purchased the Shanling M3 Ultra, and it sounds great.

However, there is a problem when using the Amazon Music HD app.

The physical play button on the side does not respond, (pause or play music), when the app is displaying.

The play button works fine when the display is sleeping and using Amazon Music.
The play button works fine when using a different app, sleeping or otherwise (The Shanling app works fine).

I have firmware 1.07.

My main source of high def music is Amazon, so this is a potential deal breaker.

Do you have any suggestions?

Hello Shanling,

My M3 Ultra arrived this morning.

So far so good. Nice actually. really like it so far.

BTW, the en.shanling.com site appears to be down, I cannot get to the newest firmware version.
