IMO, if you're buying an exotic hardwood product and want the wood stained, then just get ash wood with your desired stain that so someone else can enjoy natural beautiful wood. Stain/dye is a sin.

(at the Transgression Bar & Grill) "Deadly sin 7-B...pick it up!"

I have no doubt Zach is right in what he says about not staining burl. Still, I recall a picture posted here weeks ago--I think it was a dark-stained burl. It was beautiful. Now I have to go find that f'in' picture...

PS: does chatoyance even matter if the wood is stained purple?

Mine actually still have plenty. They are the most changing ZMFs I have and they're camphor burl. Also kind of a dark maroon-purple on my desk which become brighter and more purple throughout the day as the ambient light changes. I do tend to agree though, especially for more figured wood, that not staining a different color typically is ideal. Only got these stained as my other ZMFs are not stained a specific non-brownish color.

Just a quick report.

My purpleheat Verite now have about 200 hours on them.

I have to say, I absolutely didn't like the SPL Phonitor X with the Verite. The amp and headphone pairing sounded monolithic and lifeless 80% of the time.

I've replaced the Phonitor X with the Rogue Audio RH-5. The RH-5 has given the Verite the weight and texture and life that was absolutely missing with the Phonitor. I'm not exactly sure why that Phonitor X doesn't match well with the Verite but I've read that amps with a high damping factor and low output impedance don't play well with ZMF headphones. Whatever the reason....

The Rogue Audio RH5 is a hybrid amp. It uses 2-12AU7's in amplifying the signal. Then the MOSFETS take over and apply the current and take care of business from that point further in the circuit. I've added a pair of NOS Mullard 12AU7's into my RH-5 so I do get some of that classic British Hi-Fi sound that I really love. This amp and Verite pairing is everything I had hoped for. The blackground and power and ease and speed I love with soild-state and a little bit of the tube tone and texture I love with an all tube design.

I still have my all tube Woo Audio WA6-SE at Woo for service. It will be there for at least 2 more weeks. So this is the system I will live with for at least the next few weeks. And that's okay.

That's one thing about this hobby. You have to keep on your toes and not make assumptions and be flexible. Also I think in an ideal world you should have a few key pieces of higher quality gear to be able to experiment with and make adjustments with.

One final thing. Rogue Audio doesn't seem to get alot of attention in the Head-Fi world. They have an amazing reputation in the two-channel world. But I think they are a stellar company with a great reputation. Small company made in the USA. Check them out.

Good stuff Robert! +1 on classic Brit-fi

Was the early burn-in hours a factor with your experience? For me, there were times I was confused and it was as if my Verite had multiple personalities until it settled around 220 hours.

What a lovely purple pair!

Btw, actually I never really heard that Verite has "problem" with low impedance output amplification. I think that's too general, as many low impedance output amplifier out there produce different sound from one to another.

Agree that SPL has tendency to sound boring though.

Welp, looks like for the next few weeks I will be headphoneless or at least no means of amplification for the Autuer.
I didn't realize the 115v Pendant is backordered for two weeks and I just sold my mj2. Was hoping to get a response from zmf regarding the Pendant but I think I may just order it now as It's been a week since the last response. I don't know how much more time without headphone use I can handle. Don't worry I'll use my time constructively with some speaker listening.
And with the Pendant, I'll be prepared for the Verite. Can't wait for that beautiful day.

well all prepared except for tubes but I'm going to stick with the standard tubes until the verite arrives.

Purpleheart crew checking in
@RobertSM great looking setup. I'm not even sure if i'm even at 50hrs yet on my VO. I still enjoy it very much every time I put them on.

That really is a beautiful pair of purple heart. All of these incredible pictures making the wait that much harder.

I think I'm on the other side of the burl staining. Judging from the few pics of dark-stained burls, I think it provides a nice middle ground between the more reserved appearance of the stocks woods and the very "look at me" character of the burl.

Ok after all I ended up getting a used Kenzie encore. Zach did reach out to me regarding the Pendant but at the same time I was offered a good deal on the Kenzie and I couldn't pass it up.

It will also come with a bunch of tubes so I think I'm set on those for when the Verite arrives.
This is all too exciting! Maybe I'll try the pendant one day and maybe even a Glenn otl.

The Sonnett Morpheus is also pretty tempting too but I'm not sure how it compares to the yggy which I'm loving at the moment. I've been really interested in the mid/high end nos dac's and with the Verite it could be well worth it to finally try one out. Maybe one day...

If I had the means and wasn't waiting on the Glenn, I'd get the Mogwai SE on sale in the classifieds for $2100 with $500 in tubes. ZMF sells it too and describes it as their favorite tube amp to date.
