VO is right up there with the best headphones for metal imo, or at least more technical, fast past stuff. With the universe pads, the soundstage depth + driver speed + bass precision and impact is . Drums sound incredible and the relaxed upper mids reduces fatigue you can get with other TOTL cans and this genre.
Oh amazing. I saw them in a small UK town a few years back - was my first time hearing them and the Sentinel live blew my mind. Spoke to them afterwards and they seem like really decent people too.
Ive been doing a bunch of pad rolling on my VO. So far I have tried the standard VO lamb perf, Universe Lamb perf, Universe perf suede, Be2 lamb perf, Auteur perf suede and Caldera Ultra perf lamb.
My favorite is definitely the Universe Lamb Perf. It provides the perfect balance between added low end and smooth treble. All while keeping great staging and imaging. The runner up for me the VO lamb perf which I feel sacrifices a little low end for a slightly wider soundstage. 3rd would be a tie between the Calderas and Be2s, but I feel like they are a distant 3rd. I am not a fan at all of any of the suede pads. All the low end is gone and the headphones become quite shouty to me.
Are there any other pads that you have tried that you felt complemented the VO? Has anyone tried solid or hybrid pads?

I bought my silkwood VO 5 years ago. The stock pads that it came with are either VO lamb perf or Universe Lamb perf. Probably the Universe Lamp perf, because I had a couple pairs of VO pads here (for other headphones) and they seemed a bit shallower than what's on the VO.
These stock pads sounded amazing from day-1. I wouldn't think of swapping them for any others. "the perfect balance between added low end and smooth treble. All while keeping great staging and imaging" is definitely what I hear from these pads on the VO (my favorite dynamic driver headphone).
This headphone is so weird and quirky, and I bloody love it. Think I've always had a thing for interesting/creative tunings and this is a great example of that - I find details pop up and are displayed in unexpected ways. The hefty dynamics and lack of fatigue are a constant though. Any other new VO owners out there?

The way it simultaneously has the beryllium driver speed while managing to be fatigue-free not at all dark sounding is crazy. The snappiness and tactility of the driver is so addictive. I'd be interested to hear any thoughts you have about the VO vs. Utopia 2022 if you get around to it, especially since I know you're also a fan of more extreme subgenres of metal

100% with VO stock pads. 1000% if VO (300 ohms) is driven by high(er) output impedance OTL tube h/p/a. The 'blossoming' from hi-Z h/p + hi-Z h/p/a plus the lightning quick transient response of the VO beryllium vapour deposit drivers is sublime.

Found out today you can drive the Verite Open with an Apple dongle. I’m sure it’s not best practice, but I’m on my second album.
So I was tidying up after some pad rolling on multiple headphones. Still Caldera Ultra Pref Lamb on my VO. On each ZMF I’ve ordered so far I’ve gotten a different termination on the stock cable even though I never seem to use them. Just to keep my options open. The 1/4” got some use on my first set until I bought a dedicated long cable. I don’t remember ever using the XLR though. Today while finally putting away the Seahorse case for my latest acquisition (BWE AuCL) I came across the 3.5mm stock cable. The VO was closest and not currently cabled. The Apple dongle was by some IEMs I was messing with a few days ago. (I’m an awful housekeeper.) And since I’m now mobile I don’t need to unplug just to go make a fresh cup of tea. It’s about 3/4 volume. I’m sure if I compare to one of my full sized amps I’ll realize how much of the VO goodness I’m missing, but half a cup is better than none. It’s certainly listenable.
