That's right, that's it!
I want some notes to be more forward and bitey, also I'm thinking about getting a nicer dac and see if that would help, or consider purchasing some new headphones for jamming out haha.
I have an LCD-X to sort of compliment in that area, but again, VC get most of the listening time and I am finding myself appreciate the ability of VC to go high and loud without slightest of harshness more and more. I guess I was so used to experience bit of 'harsh' and it had since became a norm, but coming to VC to be able to enjoy such smoothness, it is really pleasing and enjoyable!

My experience seems similar. Although they are still burning in, I find the VC relaxing, but with lots of space and detail that I can dive into if I like.
Yeah the details are there but it is not like pushing all to you to a point where you sort of focusing on the details instead of listening to the song. VC is indeed a very musical pair of cans! Enjoy your burning-in process!

VC “Buriza” stabilized maple burl was delivered about two weeks ago. Still burning in, but I’m really enjoying their sound and beauty. It’s possible that I’ve spent as much time looking at them in different lighting as I have listening .

The VC has been about a 2 year journey for me, through which Zach @zach915m and Bevin have been really great to interact with. I can imagine the challenges they face in maintaining the customer intimacy that is so much a part of ZMF. While growing. During a pandemic. There’s something special about this slow mindful journey that has helped me take a step back from my relentless analytical half and methodically explore and enjoy the overall experience, and I’m sure that shapes my expectations and enjoyment of listening to the Buriza.

The characteristics of the VC, for me, allow it to be a willing canvas for painting a broad range of psychoacoustic experiences. Acoustically, as visually, the VC exhibit a subtle and lovely dynamism (chatoyance?) that supports a wide range of passive and exploratory moods, while maintaining a distinctive identity of warmth, dimensionality and detail. I’m looking forward to seeing how the experience matures with time, burn-in, pad swapping, fit adjustment, equipment, etc.
Many thanks to this community where I’ve been lurking and learning for years. More impressions and observations to follow as my journey progresses.

One quick tip: I’ve been worried about the ends of the magnesium yokes scratching one another or the wood cups. I cut a couple of round stick on rubbery feet to fit on the ends. Painted black with a permanent marker. Seems to work. I haven’t been able to bring myself to cover the cups with anything.

I find the aggressiveness of the VC is very amp dependent. More so anyway than my Auteur or Clear. An amp with the ability to generate some voltage gives it a lively, dynamic sound and takes away the sleepiness I’ve heard with low voltage op amp gear. Also, it’s extremely resolving and definitely scales with amp.

Also- the VC sound is very dependent on which ear pads you have and the geometry of your ear. For example, I don’t like auteur pads at all but love the universe pads. The auteur pads sound dull and lifeless to me with less than stellar sound. The universe pads sound amazing- more separation and detail than anything else I’ve heard while being dynamic and euphonic. Most people aren’t that extreme but a lot are.

It’s not possible to capture the chatoyance of these in a still photo. One can start to see it with motion.

The appearance of ripples perpendicular to the wood is just amazing looking!

The only indisputable fact is PINK FLOYD is the best band of all time. FACT. Case closed LOL.
Skip the U.N. and Middle East peace plans...just give everyone a dose of this version of "Wish You Were Here":

I am currently using hugo2 pairing with a90. Direct out from Hugo2 does increase a bit of 'aggressiveness', as the a90 adds a hint of warmth and smooth out the edge. May I know what amp are you currently pairing with?

Coincidently I swapped out my auteur hybrid (didnt like auteur lambskin as I find it is too boomy) to universe hybrid and it is just like what you have described - it becomes more lively - cleaner, better punch, better separation. The auteur hybrid is a bit more laid back and relaxing.

I’m using a Woo WA6 SE. It’s a transformer coupled tube amp. I like it quite a bit, but I’m thinking of upgrading it to a Pendant, WA5 LE, or something.

You can’t go wrong with a WA5.

So I've been listening to the vc for about a week now and I'm really liking it for vocal centric music. The guitars and brass instruments are really great on it.

However, when I listen to hard music like prog metal or stone rock, it feels softer than I prefer. I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing that.

my source is just burson 3xp and universal pads using tidal
The short answer to whether it feels softer than what I prefer with hard rock would be....NO. In fact think that the transient attack/speed of the VC is better than that of the HiFiMAN HE-1000 (which I still think is awesome), as I've detailed here. If you are still considering a different amplifier, then I would very strongly recommend the MicroZOTL 2 by Linear Tube Audio. The sound is fantastic. Many people have said that it combines tube smoothness with solid state detail. I agree. To me the sound approaches perfection, especially for a headphone.

Great write up, i am loving my vc but I have my doubts about my source.
It's just a conductor 3xp connected to my computer via usb and nothing else. no power supplies oranything I'll probably need to look into tube amps and a dac to go with it next.
btw what pads are you using?
oh and these songs are a blast! on the vc
