"Despite the VC’s soundstage being exceptionally large for a closed back, it’s presentation is much more traditional sounding. Whereas..."

Great review , thanks.
Would you be so kind to elaborate a little on what exactly you mean by " traditional sounding"?
Gracias brother!
I wrote that 3 years ago and don't have a VC currently, so this is just going by memory.

I believe I was trying to convey that the VC's presentation, while quite open and spacious (w/great imaging), still has a more meat and potatoes feel to it. In other words, it's still a closed back headphone, but a really exceptional sounding one. The VO on the other hand (especially with the BE2 pads) always felt more magical with it's presentation to me. Like it being open backed let the driver stretch its legs a little more.

Since I posted that comparison, I've found that a lot of these more nuanced takes can vary quite a bit person-to-person. Depending on an individuals HRTF, pads equipped, gear used and their personal preference, there's a lot of variables to consider. I know it's not feasible for everyone, but checking out both headphones is always the best option if possible.

I do really miss the VC and want to check it out again soon (and possibly update my pad review). In fact I just might try and get one soon so I can compare it with the Atrium Closed.

I must know why. :)
It may sound that i am crazy, but i prefer my modded Auteur over the VO, that was the reason i sold the VO. The modded Auteur has a deeper sound stage and better vocal than the VO, it is not as fast or as clear like the VO.

I brought my modded Auteur to a meet in DC and a well known headphones builder ( https://www.head-fi.org/members/gandhisfist.395760/ ) had an audition with the OG Auteur and he personally said that my modded Auteur is way better, and this is what he posted after the meet.

Pleasure meeting everyone and chatting about gear, don't get much chance to do that in person. Also nice to flex the old critical listening muscles comparing different gear and headphones since I don't really churn a lot of headphone gear anymore either. Highlight for me was @VanHai's modded Auteur and his WA22, thought that was a very good combination and his mods to the headphone were impressive compared to the stock Auteur. Also enjoyed @skhan007's BH Crack build, very nice looking build. Hope to see you all at the next one.

I would be very curious how Auteur lambskin pads would perform on them. My prefered pads on both the original Auteurs and on the VC's. They created the best combination of all things on both and I tend to think they would do the same on the AC. I hope so because the soundstaging mentioned here, honestly does not sound all that compelling to me.

I will look forward to further reviews, as I am hoping late next year to get a ltd pair in one of the harder woods.

Happy listening,
