This probably isn't the right thread for this, but I have to tell someone what I just heard.

Never in my entire audiophile journey have I ever not had anything to say after listening to something. Ever. I have never been speechless after listening to a song. It happened today for the very first time. I just sat there after the song ended and stared at the ceiling. It took me a while to think of what to say here, because I can't describe it. I'm sure there are probably some Buzz words I could throw around that would make people think they understand. I literally don't have the words. Except it's perfect.

@zach915m. You have done it sir. It's amazingly, beautifully, exceptionally, brilliant. I from the bottom of my heart don't know what else to say.

I've never heard anything like this combo. And I've heard a LOT of things. This beats everything. I don't care what it costs.

Well done. You've won. Game over. I quit. No more amps, dacs or anything.

Can't promise the same for headphones, but that's it. I can't imagine anything better than this. And if there is, I don't want to hear it. Because this is perfect.

That is all. Going back to the music now.

I know @goldwerger can attest to it, not sure homy many people have the combo, but yeah the Decware OTL/Taboo combo together is pretty insane. I actually don't have a taboo right now but hopefully will have some point again!

Thanks for the kind words, if those decware amps just were easier to get a hold of!

I do have one more Decware OTL in stock, I'll lost it on the site or if anyone is interested email or PM me.

Yes, I can. Sorry for jumping into the thread without context.. but on this one point: the Decware/ZMF OTL + Decware Taboo is one of the most addictive amp sections I’ve ever heard. Specifically, it’s my personal go-to for the open Caldera headphones - the pristine and holographic presentation this combination it just amazing. And The amount of tuning one can do with the tubes across both components is extensive (I have an older Taboo model, but have experience the same when I tried this with the newer one).

With these two amps, I use the OTL as my go to for the AO and AC (by far the best amp for those to my taste), and the OTL+Taboo for the Caldera. I’ve yet to find anything I prefer to these headphones.

I’m now getting to know the CC. I can share it sounds great off this chain, but early days so happy to offer more on that later as well :)

I’m just grateful you are able to have some available. You guys really made something special.

I know you really like the OTL/Taboo combo but have you tried the OTL/Aegis together?

Yeah the OTL and Aegis is killer as well. Really the OTL I find is just as amazing a pre-amp as it is a straight up amplifier, it was the unit that made me realize what a good pre-amp can offer when you have the space for one etc. Depending on what tubes are in the OTL it can add body, or linearity, and then utilizing it on a lower or higher output is helpful to find a sweet-spot for each amp as well.

It does complicate things a little but that's part of the fun I guess. :)

FedEx estimate for my Aegis is tomorrow so I’m really looking forward to running the OTL and Aegis this weekend. Crossing my fingers I don’t get called in much. . .🤞

What about using the Decware/ZMF OTL to feed a ZMF Aegis (or DIY)? Since I haven’t heard either individually I have no clue if it’s an obviously unwise combo or just crazy enough to work. I just figured this thread needed some extra outrageousness.

Oh yeah - Decware OTL - ZMF or CSP work amazing as pre-amps. I just love what they do to a solid state amp or OTC tube amp. I don't think it'd be great to go into another OTL, but I admit I haven't tried it...now that might be just crazy.

I can relate. It's one of those moments we "audiophiles" keep chasing. When everything seems to align so well. The moments when you're stunned after a song or album. Impossible to describe. Even with modest equipment I can get there, and coincidentally it's often with ZMF headphones. Good luck trying to explain this feeling to someone not into audio haha! I swear we all sound like crazy people.

There’s a reason we use the term down a rabbit hole so often…

But what happens when you reach the bottom?

1000027084.gif
I’m not sure there is a bottom. At some point you may need to start outfitting an industrial space like a cross between an art exhibit, an electronics museum, and a coffeehouse in order to have the room to display everything properly and have a variety of listening stations. Then you’ll need to at least pretend to start developing your own designs in order to write off the expense for tax purposes. Or you could open it up to select clientele. I wonder what an appropriate rental rate would be to defray operating costs and cover inevitable wear. Sounds like a solid business plan. I’m just a little short on startup capital and people skills.
