ZMF Ori (Omni) - Upcoming Semi Open Flagship

Looking all these fancy woods is just awesome but even though I like the looks of some of the other exotic woods, the one thing that always brings reality to me how good they sound. The Cherry may not be the fanciest or the rarest of the bunch but the price Zach gives you on a 2nd Cherry makes them almost unbeatable for the price.
They get plenty of use from me.

It does not hurt you can always just pick up a phone can call Zach too, JUST where can you do that with any other maker...

Appreciate it!   Yeah the b stock sets are a good value, my personal Omni that I listen to the most 001 which is a varnished Cherry set that has really darkened over time.  It's a bit beat up but I sure do love it.  A lot of sentimental value there for sure!

I wish I had more time to talk with folks on the phone these days, talking with ZMF owners and audiophiles that love the same thing I do is very very rewarding.  Unfortunately the weeks are just insanely busy, running a small business is no joke!

So Zach, with the anticipation of new woods coming out, has anyone ever propositioned you to surprise them with their headphones before? I might not be able to choose if they all look so great :)

Full creative control on the looks would be a treat to receive.

There has never been anyone who has just bought a headphone and said they want to have no idea what they get, but some people have allowed me to choose slider colors and coin and stuff.  It's very rewarding either way because every set has a different aesthetic feel to it.  It's always exciting for me to finish a headphone and send them off.

A couple of the last headphones I finished were both Bocote with Grecian copper sliders, there's something really cool about that look.

New LTD Omni woods are available:

From L > R or top > Bottom

Cocobolo, Purple Heart, African Padauk, Bubinga, Ormosia Henryii (Yellow Rosewood)

Also we just finished developing the ZMF Omni Earpads.  Right now only Lambskin is available for pre-order at $49.99 (normal price will be $59.99 for these).  Personally I find this pad to be the perfect pad for the Omni.  The sound is a touch more neutral but just as musical.  @Hansotek was actually int he sop when these arrived, it was exciting to hear the change with such a simple swap.  No retuning is needed aside from the pad change.  All current Omni orders will either get a free set when they come in, or will ship with the Omni pads on them instead of Lambskin pads.

Sonically - most of the new woods are in the "somewhat dense" category with the biggest difference being the pore size of each wood.  Pore size helps determine decay and perceived headstage and bass impact.  They are all close enough so that I would say pick the one that looks the best!

As a note - Pilot pads are also now available in Lambskin, and will come in Lambskin as stock on Omni's unless protein is asked for by the future owner.

While the 4th is celebrated and the new line of cups revealed, I cannot wait to order a pair on payday this week!

Oh and Zach, what was the part of the email relating to another massdrop about? Just curious

I messed that email up!  Will be sending out another later on in the day regarding MassDrop - we are doing another ZMF x Vibro MK II Rusted Zebra Edition run because many people missed the last one.

Alrighty, thanks for the reply! Ill be purchasing a pair this Thursday/Friday when I get paid and would like to inquire about getting a completely random pair. Is there anyway to talk about it in more detail then or now? More so like a pm about details so we could discuss them about how we could make it happen?

So what slider and coin color looks best with Cocobolo and is inlaid or etched coin better?

INSET:

ETCHED:

Neither is really "better,"  if you want the coin to be powdercoated you have to go with Etched BTW.  The natural pewter look is great though.

Cocobolo will probably look good with any of the slider colors, I usually pick out a piece of wood that works best with the slider color chosen if possible.  The only colors that haven't been used on Cocobolo is bronze.  Black is ofcourse always a safe choice.  Grecian Copper has been popular with Cocobolo for good reason:

Zach, how do the new Omni pads differ from the old default ZMF lambskin pads?

Omni Pad Dimensions: (currently only in Lambskin)

Outer Dimensions:  4.1" Diamater (104mm) Inner Dimensions (earhole):  2.82" x 2.1"  (76mm x 52mm)
Thick angled side:  1.15" (29mm) Thin Angled Side: .8"  (22mm)
NOTE: Fits Hifiman, Fostex TH Series and others.

Oval Pad dimensions:

Outer Dimensions:  4.5" x 4" Inner Dimensions (earhole):  2.875" x 2.175"
Thick angled side:  1.5" Thin Angled Side: .75"

-----------

Further - the Omni pad is made with slightly stiffer visco foam, where-as the other lambskin pads use gel infused non-visco foam.  The result of that and the slightly different geometry is what makes for a slightly different experience.  I love how they turned out, but I do not want to infer that they are definitely better than the ZMF Oval Pads, as all tastes vary, and obviously the oval pads work perfectly with great sound quality.

Oval Pad is on the left and Omni pad is on the right in all pics.
