ZMF Caldera - New Planar Magnetic from ZMF!

By far, Jewel felt very anemic to my ear while some find it neutral it sounded dead to me no matter which dap / amp pairing. Mentor is slightly warm analog sound with lifelike instrument representation and giant stage, though some people that are used to dynamic driver decay may dislike BA driver of Mentor for bass. Maybe we should take it to pm. Its caldera thread ;D
Cool. If I like Caldera that means I will like Multiverse Mentor too?

Try this. The sub-bass (which is where I think Caldera definitively beats Susvara) will blow your mind. :bomb:

Just streamed via Qobuz - awesome bass!

I don't think the 2 compare, just so hard to compare fullsize to IEM. Having said that, I do hear some similarities.

I just received a Fei Wan and it immediately reminded of the Caldera. But like others have mentioned it's difficult to compare over-ear headphones to iem's.

Hey, how much does the Caldera with resin and magnesium chassis weight? And is there any disadvantage over aluminium and magnesium chassis or is just the weight and material the difference?
Mine is 550g, which is about the same as my Atrium with brass in Koa which is a very light wood. But I have a resin stabilized Aeolus that's 518 while an Auteur at 588. It really just depends on the exact set. The magnesium can be more prone to chipping, but all but one of my ZMFs are magnesium and none have chipping. I'm careful with them and don't let the metal parts hit or scrape other things. Treat them like the $3500+ headphones they are and it won't be an issue. For me it's always been worth the weight savings, though their current headband works so well that my 613g Blackwood Verite is one of the most comfortable headphones I've worn.

Resin sets tend to be in the 540g-620g region, depending on the exact pair.
Magnesium is obviously lighter than aluminium. Earlier magnesium headbands were more prone to chipping, but to my knowledge ZMF has improved on that and current magnesium frames are a lot sturdier. Still, it is better to treat them with proper care and avoid just pushing them around on the desk.

I wonder if ZMF will ever do an all alloyed metal Caldera just to cut the weight down and see how the sound will perform. Though wood is great but it has a smell and weight to it.

Many of us love the wood smell, which is actually very subtle on the headphones if present at all after all the timbre treatment. I honestly do not think a metal Caldera would weigh less than wood, quite on the contrary. Plus, wood contributes to the special organic sound of ZMF headphones. You can get lighter wood Calderas around 480g or even slightly less. Plus, comfort with the big pads and the new headbands is really good. I am coming from the Meze Elite (430g) which is arguably one of the most comfortable headphones you can get and while I feel the 560g of my ebony Caldera, I would still rate it as very comfortable. Much better than Utopia (490g) or LCD5 (420g).
