ZMF Caldera - New Planar Magnetic from ZMF!

The Caldera is neither of those things. Best treble of any ZMF I've heard IMO, and a tangible, thick, beefy sound with no BOOM. Very fast and tight bass

+1

:point_up:this guy!

I got to demo both the Caldera and Atrium at a meet recently. Enjoyed both! Neither made me dislike my Auteur Classic either. Atrium mid bass was a tad too much on some tracks for me and seemed a bit more laid back than the Auteur. The Caldera was a very different animal! Loved the balance and how precise yet still enjoyable it was. I've wanted to grab a set since that day.

I watched @TylersEclectic 's recent live stream with Zach and Bevin. Zach very briefly mentioned the upcoming Caldera LTD woods launching February 3rd: Bocote and Red Heart. I am looking forward to seeing the photos!

Haven't seen many youtube reviews on the Caldera and I've always liked the enthusiasm this guy has since youtube seems a passion project rather than his livelihood.

My personal impressions are that I'm a tube guy and the Verite Closed plays better with my tubes than my Caldera which mainly just gets a heavier bass with 300b tubes to my ears. I actually prefer the Topping A90D for my Caldera, which is probably partially a psychological thing of not needing as much setup and because monkey brain says solid state is better for the overall planar sound profile. Still, the Caldera is amazing and I don't see myself ever parting with them. For me, they basically do everything my HD 800S does but better with with a "richer" sound at the expense of less dynamics. And like the reviewer I linked, holy smokes drums (separation and imaging) are crazy on the Caldera.

Oh fantastic! Just how I imagined it would look when I saw those redheart Atrium for ZMF November. Taking the volcanic theme to another level.

I like most genres with the Caldera, but certain genres can really show off what the Caldera can do, like faster metal. One track( not metal) I was listening to the other night really made me pay attention...oldie, moldy and fantastic.

Amazing staging on this 1970 piece, great production! Thx for the reminder @Monsterzero!

I own the Meze Empy & Elite; both are quite loud in regards to sound leakage which from my understanding is normal for open back planar's. I'm curious about the Caldera sound leakage since it's using the Atrium dampening system.

My Atrium's while being an open back are very good imo on sound leakage that while they don't meet the sound isolation of a complete close back headphone they still do very well.

Can anyone give any feedback on the open back sound leakage when compared to the Meze Empy or Elite?

I generally listen at around -70 to no more than -75dB.

Very beautiful! Any estimates on what the weight will be for both sets?

I found the Caldera sound leakage and isolation very similar to the Atrium. Definitely nowhere near close the level of the Elites + Empyreans, those you absolutely will not forget that they are open back (nor will anyone around you  )
