ZMF Caldera - New Planar Magnetic from ZMF!

I am getting confused:, it listed 3699 which includes the Wood case, don't you mean 3599 without wood case? Or that's an option? and also is the MAG Charcoal Chassis default on the Kingwood Caldera or option too?
  • Kingwood Caldera
  • ZMF Stock Braided Cable and OFC Cable
  • ZMF Caldera hybrid perforated pads and 1 secondary set (TBD)
  • LTD Kingwood Etched Wood Case or SH Case
  • ZMF LTD Etched Owner's Card
  • Lifetime Driver Warranty
The base price is 3999 which it would usually be without wood case and including seahorse case. Kingwood is the equivalent price of a stabilized wood or African blackwood due to its rarity. Wood prices are pretty crazy right now.

Then the release discount is $300 to 3699, and then adding a wood case will be $100 for this release only, we are also discounting the case to 100 from 150 for this set as well.

We haven't added the option set to the product page yet that will show all the addable options, that'll be on there well before the page goes live.

Headphone options like chassis and grille color can't be changed on the Kingwood so we can build them ahead of time to spec.

Unfortunately no grille and rod options upon release. Just MAG or Aluminum only for stock models, and all headphones can be full Vegan or Leather. Aside from that there won't be grille and rods options until the second LTD edition in January. Sorry about that, it's the only way for us to pre-build to cut down on ship times at release and stay ahead as much as possible.

When you say second LTD in January, is that the next limited wood or will there be stabilized versions in January? If not how long before first batch of those? Thanks

A regular LTD edition will come in January and likely the next stabilized (first for Caldera) will be after NYC Canjam in March.

Ok got it so the chassis is mag charcoal which is default. And the only option to select now is the wood case for 100 extra. And I suppose if I purchase extra cable the bonus or discount is the 5.5 ft instead of 4.5 ft as usual

Yep yep - the upgraded cables, amp/dac options will be the same as usual.

And yeah - if the Kingwood/Steel combo doesn't appeal to anyone we will have another LTD edition in January, I promise it will be nice. =)

Love the Kingwood. Not as big of a fan of the steel (personally). Absolutely gorgeous, nonetheless.

Interested to see what you have in store. :)

Is Kingwood a rosewood? I googled it and according to This it's a "true rosewood". If it is, it's probably one of the best looking rosewoods I've seen. I really like the tight, "layered" look of the grain.

It's going to be extremely difficult deciding which version I want. They all look amazing!

Yep it's a true rosewood! Apparently it's second in density to only blackwood among the rosewoods. It kind of looks like if Indian Rosewood, Purple heart and Cocobolo had a love child.

Will you be able to give some hint as to what color and wood would the 2nd ltd be?
I think when I got my Atrium burbinga I had know what was 2nd ltd and decided to go for first one
This will really be helpful

I'm really upset with myself.

I no longer have my ZMF Master Model v2 to do a head-to-head comparison with the Caldera.

I actually am not sure what wood we are going to go with yet, we are in the midst of cutting and machining the Kingwood. The one thing I am thinking, is that we should do something of lighter weight as an inverse to Kingwood (which actually turned out not too bad). Some options could be Redwood Burl, Walnut Burl, Camphor Burl or something like Australian Blackwood or even Bocote.

Oh man. Did it have ZPEX rewire?

You'd get my vote on Walnut or Camphor Burl
