ZMF Caldera Closed

Ha well, it seems the shape of the cups has been polarizing, at least online, it didn't seem as much at Canjam but then again people tend to sugar coat things to me. I do think those who don't like them from how they look online will appreciate the more in person, and those who like the way they look will absolutely love them in the hand and face to face.

Anyways - since we only mostly have the cup shapes and not a ton of listening so far here's some info on the cups.

I definitely wanted to emulate a mountain, growing up in NH and skiing a lot you see triangle shapes in the face of many mountains, and they appear naturally. You also come across a lot of asymmetry which this cup has, and hard edges and rounded melding surfaces, all of which is going on here, there are lots of compound radiuses and more, which I know is hard to see.

Here is an excerpt from this national geographic article:https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/types-volcanic-cones/

A volcanic cone is a triangle-shaped hill formed as material from volcanic eruptions piles up around the volcanic vent, or opening in Earth's crust. Most volcanic cones have one volcanic crater, or central depression, at the top. They are probably the most familiar type of volcanic mountain.

Further, if you put the cups together past the triangular "build up" (I'll show pictures when I have time to take them) face to face, the concave shape on the top of the cup forms a volcanic crater, much the way a real volcano does.

But anyways - I'm somewhat glad they're polarizing, I promise they will have many looks, many of them seamless without grain lines like the first LTD edition which will be Shedua wood (ovangkol) where it'll be much harder to see the angular nature because there aren't many grain lines.

But for those who like the angles, the stock wood will be the burnt ash that accentuates that nature.

Anyways - thanks for the fun debate on the cups as well.
I am of the opinion that the triangle added to CC looks amazing. This is going to be really epic on different kinds of wood, as the grain will follow that shape to some degree, making for some very unique and special patterns. I am highly anticipating the release of these.

There were multiple times during the video that were "wow" moments for me.

Magma is lava underground and under pressure. Lava is magma above ground, flying free & going nuts.

I always though there should be a muscle car model, "The Magmatic." I would buy that car.

(reviews we can only dream of) "The Caldera Closed has a magmatic effect on this listener"
.... the Head-Fier dilemma: magmatism 🤪vs pragmatism ☹️ ....

I kinda felt indifferent about it, but when someone showed how the caldera is shaped it was a light bulb moment haha

Not so sound like a broken record here, but Magmatism would be a solid album title.

Magma and lava are essentially the same thing. When magma breaks through the soil and is visible, it magically turns into lava.
English is hard... @Monsterzero why when you open the door it is magically a jar now?! 🤷‍♂️

I'm guessing in this context, the word "Hemi" is no accident. Not a bad color suggestion for a Caldera Closed.
No, not an accident.

It's no Prius when it comes to miles per gallon, but I don't care. It is so much fun to drive, like a ZMF.

I’m very much looking forward to getting some Caldera Closed. While I’m keen to learn about other people’s sonic impressions of the headphone I have this gut feeling that Zach is going to knock this out of the park. I own the Verite Closed and the Caldera Open. Both have their use cases but not only do I really like the sound of the VC but the isolation is key to me. As I write this there is noise coming from the kitchen down the hall. Open back headphones, especially planars, all the environmental noises are easily heard and it does not really suffice to just turn up the music. Very often I choose the VC for the isolation and stay for the sound. As far as the appearance of the CC I’m in the pro camp but a bigger factor to me is the weight. I had some Atriums that were very heavy (I forget the wood now). That, combined with not really jiving with the Atrium sonics led me to sell them and I don’t miss them in the slightest. Anyway, I’ll likely be first in line for the CC. Exciting times!

Now that I can listen to headphones again, and being on HF doesn't make me depressed, I caught up with this... thread?

Not entirely sure what I just read, but I believe the TLDR was:
  • Triangles be angular
  • People be opinioning
  • Geology be facts
  • Cats be floofy
  • AI be AI
  • and:
