I think it depends... no hard or fast rules. I use the Bokuh pronunciation (illustrator / photographer) because Bokay sounds too much like how you'd pronounce "bouquet" of flowers.... which doesn't compute to me when I'm talking about out of focus areas of an image easily confused
Every film instructor I had, from the USA or foreign pronounced it with a "kuh" at the end, but I learned this weekend that the correct pronunciation is with "Kay" at the end.
So anyways - I certainly think it a tomato / tomahto situation and I love you all
I should have known you were not pronouncing it right, you don't pronounce Sennheiser right either .
As a photographer, it's pronounced "bo-kay" - it originated from Japan.According to dictionary.com, it's pronounced as either Bo-Kuh or Bo-Kay (they list Bo-Key, but the audio sample sounds more like Kay).

I've been calling it Kuh forever, so I'm glad that's an option.

It's how it was pronounced to me when I went to college and stuck ever since. Although, the Geordie accent probably makes it more Bookuh!I don't doubt you, but all the photographers I know (some professional) pronounce it Kuh. It doesn't mean the it's correct, just that the Kuh pronunciation is fairly widespread (just like Zach's university professors). I originally heard it pronounced that way from a working pro photographer.
The joke possibilities are endless, but I'll try to show some restraint when it comes out.IDK if anyone else has thought of this, but when the Bokeh Open is released, we will be talking about Zach's B.O.
Ah the joy of abbreviation.
