I’m almost positive the the drivers in the Auteur Classic or an updated OG Auteur will be a whole new driver that is different from the Atrium driver and the original Auteur driver.
I have a few more questions about the upgrade option for current Auteur owners. Will the newly upgraded Auteurs receive a lifetime warranty on the new drivers? Also, will this depend on whether or not you are the original owner of the headphones? As an owner of a second-hand Auteur myself, I might be more inclined to go for the upgrade if it also bought me a lifetime warranty on the drivers.
I agree with this. I feel this would be a good opportunity for whoever upgrades their Auteur to become the original owner of the new Classic version and receive a new owner's card.
I think that’s a great idea and I also think the up charge for the Auteur to Auteur Classic upgrade will be pretty substantial. My guess is it’ll be $300-$400. For that bump in cost and because each unit needs to go back through the QC process I wouldn’t doubt the charge would include a new ownership card.
Funnily, in a similar exchange in a different thread about tubes, @billerb1 encouraged me to knock over a nearby convenience store to afford Tung-Sol 5998s. I’m starting to wonder what these forums are REALLY encouraging…
I'm encouraging you to be classy. A convenience store? Puh-leese! I wouldn't be caught dead in my auteurs robbing anything less than a museum of fine art.

True. But their security is MUCH more challenging, and I lack the funds to hire ten more people (see: Ocean’s Eleven) to do it properly- hence the heist in the first place.

@LoryWiv I'm with @ckhirnigs113 on pad rolling -- Eikon Suede have been on my Auteur since about 1 week after receiving them (also Auteur Suede & Universe Suede). Swapped between them and the two Perf Lambskin pads. Eikon Lamb never did it for me -- too much 'damage' to sound. But Eikon Suedes have done exacly what @ckhirnigs113 says -- a bit of warmth and a bit of smoothing.
As I've said before, Universe Suede didn't appeal at all, and Auteur Suede were fine, but Eikon Suede were better.
To be clear, I did not like the combination. Everything was less. Less bright, less air and space in headstage, less bass impact, less energy, less musicality. Dare I say 'dull'.
Nice stack! How are you liking the MZ3 with the Auteur? I have an MZ2 on order myself, can't wait to get it! How does the MZ3 compare to your other tube amps with the Auteur?

MZ3 is extremely clear and dynamic and has all the dimensional magic of tubes. MZ3 does not sound overtly “tube” or overtly “solid state”. The sound just is. I can ‘lush’ it up with RCA tubes, for example, if need be. Currently in MZ3 are: pair RFT ECC81 (foil getter), pair Raytheon 6SN7WGT (D getter, brown base).

It has been a while since I heard the US on auteur, but I remember them being narrower and and more relaxed, similar signature to the auteur leather pads. The universe leather pads however seem to be narrow as well but were a little bit spicy in the treble. Of the four pads i've tried (AL, US, UL, ES), the AL is my preferred choice.
