Yulong Sabre D18 thread: reviews, impressions, discussion (full review added 2/5)

Sorry, only DA10 in my history, no DA11. I found the DA10 to be pretty good (well, great at the time, but there's been progress since) with a somewhat more musical sound than the competing Benchmark units. I'd say the D18 goes even farther in that direction in terms of being fun to listen to rather than analytical.

Biggest improvement imo is the really expansive soundstage and the smoother top end. Smoother in a good way though.

OK so for a more critical linters rig say a GS-X and the DA10/11 would be ideal.   The D18 would make the GS-X more enjoyable to listen to.  Is this what i'm understanding?

Maybe. It's a tough call to say what exactly defines a "critical listening" setup versus a "fun" setup. Some have said the D18 is plenty detailed and clear for their purposes, others have said it was too smooth and made the recording sound better than it really should.

Guys, for all those loving the D18, I suggest you invest in the A18. In the simplest terms, every thing the D18 does the A18 does also, so it adds to the awesome sound signature the D18 offers, creating a very musical, detailed expansive sound presentation.
Lots of fun with my D7000's and T1's. I think I might try the he400's next.

nuts : recently i got HD800 and ref 1, do you think A18 could drive 800?

if possible , please give review : A18 pair
ed with D18.

D18 paired with master 5,

and A18 paired with ref 7.1

if above combination can make some chemical reaction, i will buy one. Now i am using D18 paired with master 6 as pre amp, 300 B tube amp as power amp to get the most from d18.

Do you change the fuse of D18?

Thank you.

Agreed! A18 is superb, and I think you'll love it with HE400. I sure do. So far the only headphone it doesn't excel with is the Ultrasone Signature Pro.

BTW I think the D18 sounds better than ever in my new chain: Nuforce LPS-1 power supply feeding Auraliti PK90, to Izmo M1 DDC, to D18. Wow! It definitely scales well with a good source and this is the best source I've yet tried (better than several multi-thousand dollar players).

FYI: A18 was designed with the HD800s as the reference cans.

Sorry if this has been asked but does anyone know anything about the D8 the successor to the D18?

From what I've read at Erji.net, Yulong plans on making a limited run of only 20 D8 units. They won't be for sale to the general public but instead will be sent around to shops in the area as demonstrations of Yulong's capabilities. Or something like that. Same story with the A8 which is essentially 2 A18s stuffed in a single chassis for true balanced operation.
