Yuin PK3 Impressions Thread
Jan 20, 2014 at 11:53 PM Post #751 of 779
Hey guys, I just ordered a PK3 and am slightly concerned about the durability issues. Is there anything that I can do to prevent this, such as putting some electric tape over certain parts of the cable, or should I just use them as-is and RMA them them they break.

Speaking of which, how difficult is it to get a replacement? Do I have to pay shipping? How long does it take? Thanks!

The cord quality on the yuin pk3 is known to suck badly. I'm not sure if you can repair yourself, but on ebay some sellers do "DIY" which is the same earbud but replaced with a durable better cord if I recall correctly

I also just picked up the PK3 DIY (eBay) and I am very happy with them.

- Overall sound is clear. More to the brighter side of neutral.
- Bass is really lacking, though I am not a basshead and this is not too much of a bother to me.
- Comfort is GREAT for me. They fit perfectly and I can wear them for hours with no issues.
- Build quality is very good from what I can tell. The DIY seems to be a durable design.

* Note for the DIY. I am not a fan of the bright red cable and find it funny that it is made of skullcandy parts.
Also comes in a Beats headphone pouch. It is a hodgepodge of parts, but it does work very well.

Now I am thinking of picking up the PK2 DIY, but having trouble to justify playing double the price for them.

I've had mine for a long time and haven't had a problem... this week almost daily use. I did splice a iphone cord onto it to get the iphone control. I've had not problem with the cord either but I hate the iphone cord because it tangles easily. I love these buds. I am about to splice another pair of PK3s for a friend.

I've been using Yuin PK3 headphones for years now. Very happy with the sound.

On that note, would anybody be able to recommend a gaming headset that has the same or similar sound quality?

They are great! Anyone found a better set of buds for around the same price?

The Yuin Pk3 is back on sale at Massdrop, finally going to get myself a pair.

Edit:

Just read these come with an asymetrical J cable. Is this true? If so, that is kinda a deal breaker for me.

WARNING! the eBay DIY PK3's
are fake that is why the bass is weak. After I figured this out (the hard way) I bought a pair from head-direct's eBay store. Sound WAY better in every aspect. The fakes had no bass and I was told the pk3's had more bass. So I bit the bullet and bought the $44 pair from head-direct. So glad I did. The eBay store that sold the fakes promptly refunded me after I confronted them.

They are not fakes, per say, they are just knock offs.  Thus the DIY, they are just supposed to kinda be like them.  I have a pair of the DIYs that I paid like $8 for.  My wife loves them.  They are comfortable and sound decent for the price.  Though I agree they are no Yuin.

The DIY PK3 has been talked about quite a bit on these forums, the seller Dasetn sells them.  More people have issues with his website than his products.  http://www.head-fi.org/t/727309/high-end-earbuds-dasetn-tingo-blox-yuin-etc-and-earbud-gear-discussion-impressions-thread

ALSO, they have the real Yuin PK3 for $36 on Amazon:  http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002OGEP2M/

the problem i have is that they clame "earphone use yuin pk3 original 16ohms standard impedance 14.8 MM diameter speaker" this isn't true. although i would love one of his cords on my real PK3's... another fake is here http://www.ebay.com/itm/121490351928?_trksid=p2059210.m2748.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT i bought these and they sound just like the "DIY" PK3's. those fakes are such a perfect looking copy its almost imposable to tell them apart from the real ones. The cord is about an inch shorter and the "PK3" print on the bud is a little bolder. even the box looks identical. The print on the cardboard sleeve is a little darker and there's a "authentication" sticker on the fakes. i plan on doing a write up with pictures soon. in other words i would only buy from authorized dealers. at $8 you probably got a good deal :)

Oh, yeah... that is a fake then.  I just meant sellers that are putting it up as a DIY PK3 is not fake.  But yeah, that sounds awful when they try to pass a fake for the real thing.
